Hello!

Is it better to do before pre-school or should I let them decide when they are ready?

  • My children were 2 years old when they stopped drinking from the bottle

  • By the time my kids were 1, they were only having a bottle at bedtime. During the day it was sippy cups. Best to get it sorted before they start school

  • My twins still have milk in their bottle before bed. It is such a part of their bedtime routine that I don’t want to cut it out and have it affect their bedtime! They drink water and milk out of normal cups during the day, so I’m not worried that it is disadvantaging them in any way.

  • From the age of 1 I gave my children sippy cups & cups with straws for their drinks but they still liked their milk in a bottle especially at bedtime, I didn’t think it was a problem but they stopped using a bottle by the time they were at kindy, They were happy to stop then.

  • My son is 2.5 and I am having struggles because he has basically given up the bottle!
I am separated from his father and he does not have a bottle at my house. He drinks out of a cup or a sippy cup but when he goes to his father’s house (who lives with his mother) she insists on giving him a bottle and so he has both a dummy and a bottle there yet he is content without one here.
There’s not much I can do about it apart from making sure I am doing what’s right for us here.

  • My sons stopped at 2 but my daughter was an addict to her milk and bottle. Without her bottle she stopped drinking milk for weeks. I gave her one of the new WOW cups in the brightest pink and she loved it. Took a bit to get used to but it doesn’t leak and it has her using cups as I said it was only for milk. She has a cup for juice and a water bottle in the fridge she can get herself now. She was pretty upset but I said the bottles had been thrown out. She got use to it not being there pretty quick.

  • By the age of 1 they should be drinking from a cup. Definitely stop the bottle by the time they go to pre-school. Depending on where they go, you may be told that water is the only drink to bring and it should be in a drink bottle
