  • I maybe gave it a try at around 4 months they’re goid firnsoothing but took it away after a year or so

  • I tried a dummy with both my babies from when they were tiny. Neither of them were interested. I’m kind of glad because they learnt to self settle and not rely on a dummy for it.

  • My daughter was given her first pacifier by the hospital staff in the maternity ward. It was the only way to calm her down, and she used one till she was two years of age.

  • None of my babies took a dummy. My grandson has one and I think his parents will have a struggle to wean him off one

  • I was determined no to give my first a dummy but he had reflux and just needed to suck all the time. The midwife said I could either give him a dummy or he would use me as one. By the time he was I week old I was so sore from his constant need to suck that we gave him the dummy. My second son we also held off but when it became obvious that he was a finger and thumb sucker we gave him a dummy so that we could wean him off his fingers. Its easier to wean them off a dummy than it is to wean them off their fingers.

  • Thanks for your responses mums..

  • With our first child we waited over 6 weeks and we struggled to help them with their colic. With the second we waited only until they were attaching well at the breast and they got a dummy (under 1 week), this has helped us all.

  • If your baby is happy to go without then don’t introduce it as it will be harder to wean it off them later
