Hello!

It can all start to add up very quickly so I am looking for somewhere that is not overpriced and has a good range.

Where do you buy Christmas decorations that are cost effective?

  • I love Christmas and Christmas decorations. I find the reject shop generally has a great range at a good price and Bunnings is pretty good for lights etc. Also Kmart is always good for bargains although the quality is not always the best.

  • A lot of ours are home made. They might not look great, but they’re really special in other ways.

  • I always bought in shops like Kmart and supermarket, but may every now and then buy an expensive or rare item just to spoil myself.

  • I refuse to purchase expensive christmas decorations.
The Reject Shop & Cheap As Chips often have cheap decorations.
Ebay also is a good option just be sure to check how long your items will take to arrive.

  • I know this is an old question but it popped up and as we are on the fast train to Christmas, thought I’d answer. I have found some lovely Christmas decorations on Etsy and MadeIt and also at local handmade markets – really good quality ones that I can pass on to my children.

  • Try and buy them a year in advance in the sales after Christmas. They are drastically marked down then :)

  • Everyone will say after christmas sales, but I actually use Myer rewards vouchers and they often have 30% off prior to Xmas for a few extra pieces. When I first started, I only bought from Kmart but have added some extra, quality pieces over the years

  • I buy after christmas and get them very cheap for the next year, even Advent calendars have over a year on them. target, Kmart, BigW especially cheap if your going to change them every year.

  • When we were young there was definitely no spare money for decorations. My Dad had run out of sick leave, there was the mortgage, basic healthy food -some of our vegetables home grown and prescription medications to be bought, and utility bills that had to be paid. To top up the decorations my Mum used some of our old small baby toys by wrapping string around them to make a loop then put it one the tree. Our tree that year was a branch that had been pruned off a fruit tree a few months before put in a bucket of dirt and sand. Somebody painted with with cheap leftover white paint

  • I bought most of my Christmas decorations from Kmart but any cheap store would do

  • I buy them at after Christmas sales and get between 50% to 70% off the retail price. A huge and happy saving!

  • I get my decorations from bigw all solar operated or battery :) cheap and effective

  • well that’s right, you can definately grow your collection, over the years. last year was a rough christmas because the car broke down and it was $2500 to fix along with regular bills, rego’s etc. we got a decent tree, decorations, lights and wrapping paper from the reject shop for $25. if you are in the right area, you might be able to get a free tree lol. get pine cones and spray paint them for cheap deco. check out pinterest because there are many budget ideas there. i have made a few table centrepieces just with junk i had laying around and it looks so good. plus i am not that creative and i don’t like clutter so it was amazing to be able to pull that off!

. plan ahead and shop for all this stuff after christmas so next year you are prepared.

by the way, i have all that christmas stuff from last year so it is all up and i haven’t had to buy anything else.

  • I got fantastic New) stuff at op shops also $2 shop has good stuff
also look on net and make your own
Kids can join in and memories each year as they have grown

  • Try Aldi. They have a large box of Chrismas tree decorations in co-ordinating colours for a very reasonable price. Also a large selection of Christmas lights.
