Hello!

What is it with kids drawing on walls?
It seems that every child I know has drawn on walls at some point…
What’s the fascination with it?

  • its a blank canvas just looking for inspiration of bright colour and scribbles!

  • That really is such a good question! Maybe they don’t realise how wrong it is being so young!

  • That huge blank canvas just screams out to be decorated ????

  • It’s like a nice big, never ending canvas. Imagine being that short and having a space that big for your artwork. It’s like they can’t believe no one has beaten them to it…lol

  • I remembered as growing up my brothers and I did it because we were bored and also a wall is like a big canvas waiting to be drawn. The only problem is we copped it when the parents found out and we had to clean it up . Though we didn’t do a good job so still got into trouble. Oh well.

  • It’s a huge canvas that needs to be brightened up, so I’ve been told. We were lucky our little ones didn’t draw too much on the walls, and if they did only one section, in pencil which at least is better to remove then pen or texta, or worse. My suggestion is to get those white erasers from the cleaning department in the supermarket, just in case.

  • I drew on my bedroom wall behind the curtains with a hair clip. I was probably bored as I had been sick (enough to stay in bed) with a few bouts of tonsillitis (I often got ear infections at the same time and they thought it may have damaged one of my eardrums) then caught chicken pox or shingles and was really sick with them and had spent a lot of time in bed, sleeping more than normal. After recovering from them, I had to have blood tests and my parents were told that my constant tonsillitis was poisoning my blood stream. My Mum then got shingles really badly, so much so that she had to stay in bed as she was so dizzy she couldn’t stand up for long. I had to wait until there was no longer risk of infection in the family, then I had my tonsils removed……I can’t remember at what age but I think my brother drew on one of the walls too but no gouges. At an older age he also drew on a dresser which scratched part way through the stained surface. I can’t remembret my elder niece drawing on anything, but I know the younger one did within a week or so of my brother re-painting the room her favourite colour – behind her bedroom door. Her Grandma told her she was very disappointed. It was pretty serious if Grandma said anything. Needless to say she never did it again. She didn’t want to upset Grandma.
One of my cousins drew on the inside of his pram with lipstick when his Mother left her handbag at the back of the head end of the mattress in it when she went to her Mother’s place. She didn’t hear him when he woke up because he didn’t cry. He just amused himself. When he was older he reached up and got his mum’s facepowder and powdered his face, then told his Mum he smelt sissy. One of his nieces found his wife’s lipstick and climbed up onto the dresing table to get it. She then drew on their bedroom wall. They were in a rental house at the time. His sister-in-law should have been watching her girls. The 2 guys (brothers) were outside doing some repairs.
Sometimes kids do it to amuse themselves. Sometimes it is attention getting, breaking boredom – that’s what I did, or it is plain naughty. Take your pick!!!!
