Hello!

Is a Wii worth it? –  I’ve been looking for ways to keep active and wonder what others experience of the wii and wii fit are? Also, is it a good way to children active? My daughter is only 1.5 years but very active – I was thinking maybe there could be games we could play together.

  • Not sure of any games an 18 month old could pkay on a WII, that’s a bit young. I have one, got it for my 40th……10 years ago. I love it, I only use it fir workout games and have a ball

  • I got a WII from hubby and kids for my 40th birthday. The only activities I do in it are the WII fit and WII fit plus as well as another fitness one calked EA sports. I use it a few times a week still, after 11 years! Not sure if there’s any games suitable for an 18 month old though

  • Not sure if there’s any games suitable for an 18 month old. But I’ve had my WII for years and still use it a few times a week

  • Yes they are alot of fun and you can all enjoy it.

  • I would say no. I got one at home. When we first got it we use to play a lot, then after few days no one is interested.

  • I got a WII for my 40th. My hubby and kids thought it would be good to help keep me active. I thought, oh my god I’m not gonna use that! Here it is, 8 years later, and I’m still using it a few times a week. Mostly the WII Fit Plus and EA Sports games.

  • My daughter bought one & sold it straight away.

  • We have a Wii & we love it!
We got the sports game & the kids love it!
I do prefer they play outside & enjoy the fresh air but during the cold wet months it keeps them active, & when its to hot to go outside as well.
Please do make sure you use the wrist straps the controllers come with, we didn’t and whilst bowling our little man let the controller go and we had a chip in our TV, luckily no-one was hurt. The sports offer a variety of different sports, bowling, baseball, tennis, golf, boxing. You can also purchase attachments that convert the controller into a tennis racquet, golf stick, baseball bat. You do need the nun-chuck for the boxing I think.

We also have a Xbox Kinect which I also recommend, however the sensor can be VERY sensitive. The Kinect does offer a lot more games on each disc & there is no controller needed which is an added bonus. Our kids do prefer the Kinect. You do have to be careful because you have so much fun using it you don’t realize the effect it has on your body & the first couple of times you will be very sore the next day!
Our personal favourite is the carnival games, it’s family friendly & even the adults love it.
Children of any age can play, Mr 2 Year Old even gets up & has a go.

Both consoles are fantastic & you would honestly get a lot of use of both, especially in school holiday time & when the weather affects outside play.
It’s also great when the kids are asleep, my partner & I often play when the kids go to sleep :)

  • We had one for a while it was fun for about two weeks and then we got bored and now it is collecting dust :(

  • It won’t register your 1.5 year old but in saying this she could deffinatly do activities with you. It is great for getting active!

  • We have an original Wii which was great until my partner got an XBox360. Then he focused solely on that console and we stopped getting Wii games. They have upgraded the Wii since then so I’m not familiar with the games but from experience, Nintendo have a lot of great games that kids like the look of and can play as well.

I bought a fitness game for the Wii and hardly used it. The Xbox has a much better camera than the old Wii so I would never hook the old Wii up and use the fitness game. The new Wii might be better.

I guess it depends on who exactly will use the console and what they’re interested in. Also, how much you want to spend on the console.

I can recommend the Xbox360 for a wide variety of games.

  • so how did you go? i hope you got an xbox lol

  • i really recommend from personal experience getting an xbox 360 and the camera. $300 for that package or $200 for just the console because they are getting cheaper because of the new model xbox in store. wii’s are around $200 2nd hand.

just the fact that you jump around and are the controller vs having to constanly point a controller at the screen is the best thing and it’s easier for a child to play with

a little kid has way more fun with xbox and there are better games and variety for kids and adults

  • When our children were younger the WII was worth it as they use to play with it all the time and it was the only system that we had we made sure we also only had limited games so they weren’t spoilt for choice and so would then play with what they had.

  • there are some good comments here
