Hello!

So many people just walk by and do nothing. What would you do? I would be staying nearby and ring the police for help especially important if children are involved.

  • For your own safety it’s best to call the police, also get your phone out and start making a video

  • I couldn’t help myself but get involved, I grew up in a situation where this was a daily occurrence so I would definitely act and try and stop it

  • I would be reluctant to personally step in and stop it as the attacker might pull a knife or gun. I would definitely call the police and get some sort of help though, not just ignore it

  • definitely intervene in the safest way possible – ie call for help, call police, video it, let the offender know they are being reported – in the hope that they stop inflicting any further injury at that time.

  • Yes, I would either call 000, video the incident or jump in myself.

  • It is never OK to bodily harm anyone. Call the police, and make noise to alert the offender and let the victim know that there’s help around. using your mobile phone to video the event as evidence would also be helpful.

  • Yep – have pulled over on the side of the road to help. Both were exceptionally drunk, and I called Police and got her assistance…

  • I don’t have a mobile phone, so I would tell the man I was going to call the police in the hope that it might stop him.

  • I was told by a police friend to call 000 immediately and not get involved if I wasn’t comfortable. As long as you call the police you have helped.

  • It would depend, if I had my children I would call the police & get my children to a safer place.
If I were alone, absolutely! As a former victim of DV I know just how humiliating & scary it can be to be attacked in public & have no-one offer assistance.
NO woman or man should be made to feel that way by a so-called loved one.
We live in a society where almost everyday we hear of a person losing their life to DV, if I had the opportunity to try & save at least one, I wouldn’t let that pass.

  • Definitely!

  • As a female I wouldn’t step in as I’d probably have my kids with me. I’d get them to safety and quickly call the police. I don’t think I could actually leave the premises until I knew she was ok though.

  • I would call the Police and if you know somebody is injured ask them to call an ambulance to the scene as well. I heard of one guy to stepped in to save an injured person, was attacked, sustained bad head injuries and had to have urgent surgery.

  • I’d like to think that I would intervene and help but I suppose it would depend on lots of things: how violent this partner was being; if the children were also being hit; if I was by myself or if I had my little girl with me.

At the very least I would call the police and maybe take a video on my smartphone.

  • If she was just being hit, I would step in and help. If there was any chance a gun or knife could be pulled, no way. I’ld call the police and watch from afar
