When this mum first saw her son’s school pictures, she pretty much lost it. That was until the internet helped change her mind.

The mum shared the images on Facebook and her total frustration at them, “I’m so mad right now! I checked my sons book bag and find these!!!!”

But you see the thing is, she was the only one mad about them. Everyone else absolutely loved them.

To her credit, when her son’s school pictures started going viral and were shared pretty much everywhere, and the internet fell completely in love with her son, she had a total change of heart.

Her original post attracted 34,000 comments and 42,000 shares.

In a follow up post the mum shared:

“Please allow me to explain my first reaction and how I feel now…..

Firstly, we have decided to purchase the photos.

I was initially upset because I was expecting a traditional school picture. I have spoken with representatives at Lifetouch School Photography who simply told me the issue would be escalated and someone would follow up. I saw an article that said free spirited photos are their policy. If I had known, I’d have no reason to feel upset about not getting a traditional picture. Regardless, knowing that his silly picture brought joy all over the world, how can I continue to be flustered?

Andrew has always been a silly kid with a HUGE personality! He has taken traditional professional pictures in a school setting in the past that were wonderful. That is the reason this really threw this mom for a loop!

I love my son. All the positive comments really warmed my heart. They opened my eyes to see that everything doesn’t need to be cookie cutter. Being yourself is even more amazing! Drew sends his love and says thanks again for the love!”

Would you be upset to receive these photo’s?

  • There would have been massive outrage if my Dad was shown a school photo like that. I don’t think my Mum would have been too pleased but she was much more placid.

  • If i knew they were free spirited photos I wouldn’t be bothered.
It will be great to look back on and always be good for a laugh

  • I think I would need to have been told that they might not take non traditional pictures!

  • I’d certainly cherish these photos. Our school does the basic school photo and then you can have a family photo done. The kids can smile but nothing else. I would have loved to get one like this.

  • I’d be over the moon if I got these! It shows so much of his personality! My daughter always has a weird look on her face. These are so cute!

  • I love this spunk and personality. I can understand the Mum’s shock, but love how it has played out.

  • I would be upset it should be the responsibility of those taking the photos to make sure they are what the parents would be happy to pay for

  • The whole concept of school photos is kind of strange really. Some children are hard to get them to pose anyway.

  • I have looked back over my eldest son’s photos – and I wish he had been more himself is many of them. The only difference were the length of his hair over the time.

  • I would laugh and laugh. I’m actually surprised I’ve never got one like this.

  • Priceless! My youngest didn’t want to have her school photos taken recently, and said she would frown if she did. I told her to frown then if she wanted, as long as she had her photo taken as I would love to have a photo to remember that year at school. I’m not sure what she did as they haven’t come back yet, and I can’t wait to see them. I love any photos of my kids.

  • I would be surprised too and then probably end up laughing.

  • I think I would burst out laughing when I would receive such a school photo of my kids

    • I agree – surprise and then laughter – it is only a photo!

  • I’d be surprised too but love her response afterward
