Mum throws Kmart party for her daughter’s 13th birthday.

Shannon Cassidy, a mother of two,  shared in the Kmart mums group how she gave the five guests who attended her daughter’s party $30 in cash to spend on whatever they liked at their local Kmart store.

Shannon wrote on her post, “My daughter just turned 13 and at loss of what to do for a party, we came up with the Kmart Challenge’ ”

“Each guest was given a specially made envelope with cash in it to burn at Kmart, then we had lunch at the food court. Easiest party I’ve ever done,” she said.

After shopping they all visited the nearby food court and a stack of cinnamon donuts doubled as the birthday cake she told Better Homes and Gardens.

Her party idea has gone viral on social media, with 4.8K reactions and nearly 470 comments on the ‘Kmart Mums Australia’ Facebook page.

  • Wish I’d thought of this when my boys were young. It’s a great idea and saves you a lot of work so you can enjoy too

  • That is such a great fun thing to do and saves having your home turned upside down

  • Why not?? As long as they’re well behaved in the store, and they have fun, it sounds like a great idea indeed.

  • A prefer the original idea of giving kids the money to spend as they will. The challenge does add an extra element to it but then kids may be going home with items that they don’t want/like/or need. As a parent I’d rather my child come home with one $20 item then 3 items

  • A very interesting idea and probably works out cheaper than buying everything needed for a party!

  • I think my daughter would love it, in fact, I think my son would too.

  • What a novel idea for a girls’ 13th birthday party. No cleaning up afterwards and the girls all got money to spend on anything they wanted and what 13 year old wouldn’t be happy with that. I’m sure they couldn’t stop talking about the wonderful time they had. Congratulations Mum on such a wonderful idea

  • I rate this idea for a kids birthday party – sometimes it’s so hard to figure out what to do for tweens and teens!
