Are McDonald’s birthday parties really a thing of the past?

One mum shared her disappointment after being shamed for suggesting her child have a McDonald’s party.

“My nephew recently had a party at McDonalds and my kids had a ball.

“So I was thinking of having my son’s 6th birthday there too. But when I told a group of mums at pick-up about my idea, they looked disgusted and one commented “who takes there kids to McDonalds anymore?”

“It made me feel really uncomfortable. My kids LOVE Maccas – although we only go occasionally. Am I the only one who takes kids to McDonalds and thinks having a party there would be fun?”

Are they really such a horrible thing?

Well it seems our mums think not!

The majority agree that those mums who look down their nose at Macca’s are just stuck up and don’t understand the necessity of a good old (easy) Macca’s party.

Elza said, ” I’m 46…..I want my own bday party at McDonalds!”

Sarah said, “Take a stand and just go anyway! It’s about your kid, not other mothers.”

Danielle said, “Absolute bullshit!! Some ppl need a reality check. A Maccas party is like a right of passage. Who really doesn’t feed their kids Maccas??”

Ami said, “Man Maccas is the bomb with the kids.”

Kylieann said, “Who doesn’t like a Mac as party. My son went to a 3rd bday there last year, and my 10yr old had a ball too. Daughter also went to one when she was 7. I think maybe they jelly they can’t afford one.”

Michelle said, “Can’t imagine a child not enjoying a Maccas party. They were the best!”

Vesna said, “Who cares what those women think. If your kids love to have a party there so be it. Each of my kids have had a party there.”

Craig said, ” Macca is ok as a sometimes special food… and a Birthday is definitely special and sometimes…”

Trace shared, “These are the mothers you don’t want to be around and they will probably teach their kids to be just as nasty. Your kids will never put others down, and they will have a great time at their maccas party next month!! You will too!! NO PREP, no cleaning before OR after!! Someone else entertains!! Best value!!”

  • Loved these as a kid. Too bad they aren’t doing them anymore. One thing that was lost during COVID!

  • Got to love judgy parents. Kids love Mc D’s….heck I love McD’s. Is it healthy for you? No but neither is having a stick up your butt. McD’s is fine as long as you are not having it constantly.

  • Nothing wrong with it! I think every kid had either a Hungry Jack’s or McDonald’s party when I was growing up. It’s fun.

  • everyone goes there anyway – so i don’t see a problem having a bday at maccas’s.

  • If somebody replied to my comment like that I’d simply return their comment and tell them their not welcome anyway. Mums need to stop being so judgemental of each other! A maccas party is for the child, not the adults! There was nothing cooler when I was younger than going to a maccas party. Not all of us can afford extravagant, organic, tee-pee/make-up/trips to Luna Park for the entire class type parties. I’m absolutely dreading my kids starting primary school as I’ve heard nothing but negativity from judgemental mothers

  • Can you actually have a childhood without having at least 1 maccas birthday party? It would just be wrong! I had my 18th there :)

  • My kids always loved these. Yeah, it’s probably not the healthiest food wise, but isn’t junk food what parties are all about? They have a pay area and organised activities and no clean up for mum!

  • I always thought that kids enjoyed those parties.

  • That’s pretty sad for the family. People are really judgey these days!

  • Wow! It’s a sad day when a Macca’s birthday party is frowned upon. It’s about what your child wants and Macca’s parties are fuss-free, easy to organise, and everything is done for you. We loved having them and going to them.

  • Some good advice on here – just do what your child wants. They’re the ones that will remember their brithday party in years to come as opposed to these other mothers.

  • Forget about those women. Does your son want a Macca’s party? If so then have the birthday party there and if their Mum says no, then that is their problem. We don’t all have thousands of dollars to spend on parties. It’s his birthday not theirs.

  • Oh, please. This is all because so many parents have become super-competitive about so many aspects of life, including childrens’ birthday parties. Nowadays, among certain parents – and we all know them – it’s de rigeur to have the opulent (and very expensive) princess, Disney, Spider-Man, pirate, unicorn, beauty spa or what’ve party. They all try to top the previous party their child attended. Not every parent can afford, and not t every child wants, the over-the-top 6th birthday party. More importantly, not everyone is interested in outdoing othe parents, and showing off their professional photos of their party-planner event on social media. Some parents and children just want a simple, easy, small celebration with family and friends, and this should be encouraged and applauded. I think it’s time to start shaming the shamers, because clearly, they have no respect and should know better. .

  • I think it’s crazy how people behave over a children’s birthday party I don’t think there would be any child that wouldn’t like to go to a birthday party with play equipment icecream, chips, burgers, lollies and cake it’s a child’s party
