Mum discovers clever way to reuse an empty coffee jar.

Leah Goulis, from Sydney, discovered another use for her empty Moccona coffee jar by turning the lid into a handy container.

Ms Goulis, who admitted that it was her husband who first noticed the hack, found that the rubber seal around the lid can be removed.

“Turns out you can take out the plastic part on the lid and store sugar (or whatever else you want) in there for when you go on a picnic or on the go!” she wrote online. “Mind. Blown.”

The jar could then be used for lots of things like storing fruit with yoghurt in the lid, carrot sticks with dip or tea bags and sugar.

Can’t say I would have ever thought of that!

  • Cool I have many of these large jars and didn’t realise about the lid and it’s function if you turn it over.

  • Clever idea for those days when you need something like this in a hurry and don’t have the time to go to the store to buy a purpose made container.

  • It’s not that clever and you can buy small containers for cheap

  • I’m with a few other moms on this one..to much messing around for me and I agree you can get cheap containers that probably do a much better job.

  • That’s a nifty idea!

  • Wish I had thought of this idea sooner

  • Reusing containers isn’t new. The plastic bit would be a pain to pull off and would most likely break after a few uses. Reusable plastic containers are so cheap these days so I don’t see the point of needing to use the lid. Just reuse the whole container for something else less fiddly.

  • Moccona coffee is a bit more expensive than other brands of coffee like Nescafé I wouldn’t buy unless it’s on special and Iam deseperate I would buy a brand new canister jar from the reject shop or Kmart they are a lot cheaper

  • Not such a brilliant or clever idea to be honest. Who doesn’t reuse their jars and containers ??

  • We use these jars for a variety of uses too – they are fabulous for the kitchen and house.

    • The latest coffee jars have pretty patterns on them – I bought one with cupcakes and one with flowers. Colourful and pretty new additions for the kitchen.

  • I’m not sure I’m seeing the brilliance everyone else is seeing. I have a small container for sugar when travelling.

  • That’s a clever idea, particularly for picnics.
