A mother in Perth has been slammed online for posting a job advert offering the equivalent of $4 an hour to help her move house.

The mother of an 18-month-old posted the advert on Facebook, ‘Looking for extra hands’ and noting that she was looking for either a school leaver, someone in between jobs or a housewife to help her out, shares Daily Mail.

‘I’m currently in a process of moving house. I need an extra pair of hands to help me moving,’ she wrote.

‘This is just for LIGHT SMALL stuff. The big ones will be handled by my husband.’

She explained that she was moving house and needed help with things like transferring items from one house to the other and rearranging them, as well as other household chores such as vacuuming, doing the dishes and folding laundry.

At the end of the post she said she was offering $500 for 20 days of 9am to 3pm work – which amounts to just over $4 per hour. ($25 a day)

People soon called her out on the pittance pay

One person questioned how someone could take 20 days to move house, saying that they had ‘a ute and a trailer…bet I [could] do it in 2 days’.

Another joked that they were making more in 1983 as a 12-year-old.

‘Obviously trying to use ‘the move’ as cover for someone to be her cleaning b*tch,’ another wrote.

One brave Facebook user called out the woman, saying she was essentially looking for a ‘personal slave’.

In a post to the ‘Perth – Have a Whinge’ Facebook group, the user said they messaged the woman privately and told her that ‘treating people like that is totally unacceptable’.

The woman justified her offer saying it was just “pocket money” for someone.

Do you think it is a fair payment?

  • you cant say its just pocket money for someone when you are requiring them to work from 9 to 3 for 20 days. Shocking amount to offer someone

  • I don’t know what her financial situation is either, but I’m quite certain that even those of us in financial difficulty wouldn’t be offering an amount as ridiculous as that.
Offering “pocket money” to do this job is appalling.
So what does she expect, get a bunch of 10 year olds to help?

  • If she is so desperate for help why not ask her friends. If she has got so long to move into the new house, why not just move a couple of boxes a day. I’m sure she didn’t mean to upset anyone.

  • I don’t know enough about this woman’s financial situation. Maybe it’s all she can afford. I also don’t know her family situation. But, if it offends you, clearly it’s not for you!

  • Doesn’t this highlight one of the greatest problems we have today – lack of respect and the inability to put yourself in another’s place. What sort of message is this mother sending her children.

  • Why not pack the stuff in boxes, hire a truck and move it yourself?? If the truck isn’t too big you can drive it yourself. I know plenty of people who have done that, even had some friends help them load and unload, then fed them well and perhaps given them drinks to take home as well.

  • Is this even legal? How come it will take so long to move, I think there is more to this story.

  • Not fair payment at all.

  • Surely it would be cheaper for her to hire a man with a van for a few hours and get it all moved in one go.

  • Geez for the work this is a small sum. She would need to fork out more for a baby sitter so I would love to know her justification behind this.

  • Sure not a fair payment. It’s kind of embarrassing what she offers and in a way she devalidates the person she offers this money.

    • I believe even young people in retail and hospitality and other roles would be paid more!?

  • Is she for real? Why not ask some friends for help if she can not pay a decent amount ?

    Reply

  • Not fair at all and hopefully someone doesn’t work for that hourly rate.

  • I don’t understand how she estimates it’s going to take 20 days.

  • Does seem a bit cheap but it’s that what pocket money is. But you’re practically just helping a mother out who needs help.
And no one hasn’t bother to ask what was the bonus they get afterwards.
