Now this is going way too far!

A mother was told not to pack her son homemade biscuits in his lunchbox – unless there’s one for everyone in his class.

Joanne said the uneaten cookies were sent home from the school with a handwritten note after her little boy wasn’t allowed to eat the treat.

The note read: “Dear mummy, can you please avoid sending cookies unless there is one for everyone. It’s difficult for the other children when one has treats. Thank you.”

note in lunch

Joanne said she was shocked by the comment but she wanted to see the teacher the next morning to get an explanation.

‘I got this note sent home in my son’s lunchbox because he had homemade biscuits in his lunchbox. I was horrified but didn’t lose sleep over it, I figured I’d talk to the teacher the next day and see what she meant,’ she shared on Facebook.

Enough to Be Shared!

But when she met with the teacher, she was ‘gobsmacked’ by her response.

‘She said it was “policy that homemade goods aren’t encouraged unless there was enough to share with everyone”. I questioned why and tried to talk to her openly but she said that it wasn’t encouraged,’ the mother said.

‘I asked “if a pack of Tiny Teddies or Shapes would be okay and she said “that would be fine”. So… I questioned how a homemade biscuit with four ingredients isn’t encouraged, but a processed packet supermarket option was okay?

‘She just kept saying it was policy and that the parent committee runs the policies so I’d need to take it up with them.’

She clarified the incident actually happened a few years ago but she later shared it to her Facebook page, which has since been met with outrage from fellow parents.

  • Yikes, I hate this stance! As long as every kid has their own packed lunch, there shouldn’t be any issues. What if it’s a sneaky healthy cookie you’ve put in your kiddos lunch. Id also argue it’s a valuable lesson to kids that everyone has their own food

  • Keep your hands out of my kids lunchbox!

  • The pre school that my daughters went to would not allow anything like that at all. No cakes, muffins or cookies. Everything had to be 100% healthy and could not even look like a treat.

  • Thst makes no sense. Surely this can’t be right.

  • It overall is asking too much

  • So does this mean that if you want to homemake “treats” you have to ensure all allergies are catered for too? It’s the parents choice as to what is served in a lunchbox, it shouldn’t matter if you are making a sandwich, a salad or a treat. If you made it you made it. Otherwise maybe they should move to making all lunches potluck so everyone gets the opportunity to eat the same. This is really going too far.

  • Wonder what would be said if my child had a serious medical problem and could only eat food that I had prepared because of it. Think these teachers should be called out at times.

  • This is just going too far.

  • This makes me so mad! My child will eat that I give them. Not what their teachers want them to eat. Homemade is much better than processed foods.

  • The world has gone made. You would think home made over processed package would be acceptable….. but no!

  • This is absolutely ridiculous, especially when another MoM article is highlighting how you can’t bring in baked cakes for birthdays. You can bring in enough for everyone… unless it is a birthday cake I guess?
I like to bake, I will bake for my children, but shouldn’t feel obliged to make them for everyone.

  • the effort that goes in to baking should not be made in to a chore by then having to bake for the whole class.

  • Homemade would be better and in general there should be no sharing due to allergies!

  • Oh my lord. REALLY?? It is getting a bit OTT some kids a re fussy and if you send stuff they LIKE it comes home which is HARD as the poor child comes home hungry.

  • That is very odd, since when are we baking for the whole class! Especially as some children have allergies, wouldn’t that be a tad dangerous to give everyone a cookie/ homemade treat?
