Four days after the birth of her baby girl on Jan 19 the 27-year-old dared to get all dressed up and go out to enjoy a meal with her fiancé.

The mum says getting out of the house helped her avoid “cabin fever”, but not everyone agreed!

Some people were even horrified that she would even consider putting on a full face of make-up mere days after having a child.

Sophie, a PR managing director from Staffordshire, shared a photo of herself on social media following her evening out – but she wasn’t prepared for the reaction it provoked.

The mum-of-one claims her picture was met with a wave of cruel messages from people telling her she shouldn’t have left the house.

Speaking to Mail Online she said: “I was surprised by the negative reaction. People, including my friends, started to question why I was out of the house, wearing make-up and not spending time at home in the newborn bubble.

“I received direct messages like, ‘Four days and you have a full face of make-up?! Lol where do your priorities lie?’ and, ‘You have the rest of your life to go out and your are spending these first few precious days in a restaurant! Ridiculous!'”

Sophie says close pals began telling her they felt pressured to look as good as she did after giving birth, but she told them that putting make-up on just gave her a “sense of normality” and made her feel human again.

In a recent post to her 10.7k followers on Instagram , she revealed why she had decided to speak out about the harsh reactions to her photo and her message to the critics is powerful.

She wrote: “I thought about it and I realised that if I could make just one new mama realise that you can do WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT TO – and maybe make another taste their words before spitting them out – then [it] would be worth doing.

“Motherhood is hard – with mascara on or not – so let’s back each other all the way and support each other instead.”

How soon after birth did you wear makeup and feel pretty again?

  • Oh for goodness sake. So because she is a Mum shes supposed to totally forget about doing anything that makes her feel good about herself??
At the very least I always do my eye makeup so I did that the very day after I had all my children because it made me feel good. I did it for me.

  • Probably her natural way of presenting herself and part of her regime, so good on her for keeping it up.

  • I never wore makeup to begin with haha! Now I do wear a little.

  • Haters going to hate. Each to their own. Lord, I don’t think I wore make up for years after having kids but I had no time or effort for it. Whatever she does, as long as she’s happy and the baby is happy who cares!

  • so sad that we feel the need to bash another mother, makeup may give her so recumbence of normality. We are always taught to put the baby first, which means we are not important. Well we are, taking care of ourselves means we can take care of our babies

  • Priorities hey, clearly for this girl it’s not her new baby! Bottle and all, poor kid

  • I don’t see the problem with this, if she feels good, I say well done. I know plenty of others who have done the same. It really isn’t anyone’s business.

  • I was probably one week. Mother in law stayed with us and encouraged us to go out. People need to get a life. Newborns sleep a lot especially at night and you can always leave express milk just in case. But it’s a couple hours for a meal that you can eat and not stress about.

  • If thats what helps her feel good, then so be it. It’s not really anyones business is it?

  • It’s not what I’d want to do that soon after giving birth, but it’s not really anybody else’s business but hers.

  • It took me ages but you do whatever works for you and makes you feel better. I had to pump all the time so I was jealous of people with more freedom but at the same time thought it was great for them.

  • I don’t wear make-up anymore so it wouldn’t be an issue for me. There is no set time when you should put make-up on after you have a baby. If it makes her feel normal then good on her. Hopefully she doesn’t take all the negativity to heart.

  • I hate wearing makeup, and take every opportunity to NOT wear it. But good on her for wanting to feel “normal” again.

  • I doubt that I didn’t wear make-up from day 1 – even in the hospital I wore make-up and it felt quite normal to me to do so. I really dislike social media – it makes you doubt your own judgement, then you get told off for not having ‘ME’ time.
