An Australian mum shares a clever tip to help with shoe shopping for the kids without taking them with you.

‘Off to Kmart today. Need winter clothes for my kids. However, they are a pain to buy shoes for. So I’m taking their feet with me,’ her post in the Kmart mums group said.

The accompanying photo is of two different feet sizes, one for each of her children, which she takes with her to know what shoes will fit them, shared Daily Mail.

Her trick has received hundreds of comments and more than 5,000 likes from other members.

Many people complimented her on the idea as it was something they had never thought of before.

I have actually spotted this before.  Very simple, yet clever, trick to keep mums sane.

  • I went to kmart to buy miss 5 some new joggers/sneakers. Apparently girls only need pretty shoes not practical ones! Out of the 5 styles of joggers there were literally only two in her size! One that was the same as she had only been wearing two month before falling apart and one with laces! So great trick, but until they get better shoe selection still kinda pointless!

  • Haha I’ve done this before

  • My nana used to do this all the time for us when I was little (I’m now 40!). Not a new trick but a great one.

  • good idea, but my son would still like to pick the shoes he likes. If I chose his shoes, he wouldn’t like them.

  • Great. Now to keep them still enough to get a pattern.

  • Ha ha, great minds think alike! I actually did this a few times when my kids were younger in primary school. I hated going shoe shopping with them because it always had to be done after school which was always busy because just about every other family went shopping at the same time. Weekends were out because they were at their dad’s place. This did work well for a little while but as they started getting older and developed opinions they wanted to choose their own shoes.

  • Interesting tip! But my daughter is very peculiar with shoes. So I think I still prefer to bring her with me so she can try them on. Sometimes one foot fits, but the other doesn’t.

  • Nope. Best way to buy shoes, only way for me actually, is to take them with me to try them on

  • Great idea and hopefully lots of people start doing it so I don’t feel strange checking shoe sizes.

  • Great tip. I just measure the feet with a foot gauge measuring device, which I have at home, before I go shopping.
