A mum was shocked to discover that the online dress she ordered for herself barely fit her four-year-old…

When UK mum, Kirsty Dee, ordered herself a little black dress online she never expected that it would barely fit her four-year-old daughter! The $19 dress from popular online store PrettyLittleThing was less than half the size of a regular size 8 garment 9honey reports and just managed to fit Kirsty’s daughter, Molly.

A Frustrating Mistake

Kirsty says she had ordered the dress hoping to wear it to a friend’s birthday the next day. “So I bought this (dress) in a size 8 from PrettyLittleThing and it wouldn’t even go over my head!” she wrote on Twitter. “It just fits my four-year-old daughter! Really?????”

The mum attached a photo of Molly wearing the online dress and says she can’t believe the inaccuracy of the brands sizing. “I think it’s disgusting how they promote body confidence and then send me a dress not fit for a size 6-8,” she said.

Not The First Time…

Kirsty says that while the experience was incredibly frustrating, seeing Molly in the dress did provide a laugh. As a result of her tweet, the brand reached out to Kirsty saying that they would investigate further. “So sorry that there is an issue with the dress you bought,” they tweeted in response, before asking for her order number and details to resolve the issue.

Even though it’s always a risk to order online, we think Kirsty is completely justified in her shock!

  • I have ordered on Ebay and had some Asian sizes sent to me that are so very super small.

  • This why I do not buy clothing on line if it needs to be fitted. Even buying clothes off the rack can be hard at times, had to buy clothes sizes bigger then I like. Though having a dress that fits your four year old is really beyond belief.

  • Good grief. I know Asian sizes can be very tiny, but this is ridiculous.

  • I wonder what size she ordered. If it was something like a size 12 or more I’ve repeatedly notices that a girl’s 12 is smaller than a lady’s 12.

  • Certain items just shouldn’t be brought online for this reason

  • I much prefer to go into a shop and try something on! Too many times you think something will look great and then try it on and it looks terrible or doesn’t fit properly. But this just takes the cake! Its tiny!!!

    • Totally agree – an item can look good on a rack and then when put on….?
The opposite is true too – I found a dress that looked ordinary and when put on…wow! :)

  • And…this is why I like to try on clothes and shoes.

  • I don’t like buying online because you’ll never know if it perfectly fits. I’ve made too many bad-buys.

  • I normally don’t have too many issues with sizing when ordering online. But this is ridiculous! Surely it has to be a faulty item.

  • I have had things the wrong size and have given up buying online for this reason but this is outrageous.

  • Another unrealistic expectation for women…
I hate clothes shopping because I never know what size I am.

  • It’s always hard to know what will come when you order online unless it is from a major retailer.

  • I don’t like buying clothes without trying them on first. The difference in sizing between brands makes it too hard.

  • I often find online clothing is smaller than you’d expect by size, but ths is ridiculous.

  • At least the company answered to her complain. I hope they will give her a refund.
With dresses I generally don’t have problems online (but I always buy from the same brand! :-) ) but I really don’t dare buying shoes online.
