Mum pens a poem which pokes VERY gentle fun at her other half and the internet response is very surprising.

Caroline Olling Andersen’s poem “Daddy’s Asleep” has captured the attention of thousands of parents who can relate painfully well to it.

She’s also faced a large amount of backlash for it and issued a brilliant rebuttal.

Her poem:

I love your daddy, I really do,
After all, without daddy, I wouldn’t have you.
But from midnight till sunrise, it’s just you and I.
And as each hour passes, I’m not gonna lie:
Mommy’s love slowly fades, becomes angry and weak,
Because no matter what, your dad is f***ing asleep!
It all starts out lovely. We kiss each other goodnight.
We look lovingly down at you dear, such a beautiful sight.
An hour later, mommy wakes with a start.
You’re twisting and turning, you’re starting to fart.
You’re gesturing for food. Mommy is there
with a bottle or breast
Daddy is snoring away, the way he knows best.

Since Caroline’s poem took off with over 16,000 shares and 17,000 comments, other parents have been very vocal of how much it resonates with them.

One woman freely admitted how she “plotted my husband’s demise every night for two years”.

Another added: “Oh how l LOVE this poem and keep [it] in my heart…”

“F*****g men and their useless nipples!” another woman joked.

However Caroline’s poem did attract some criticism for both mum AND dad shaming.

In response Caroline later wrote:

  • My husband slept which I didnt mind during the week as he had to work but what angered me is he would wake me in the mornings when he was up to go to work.

  • My 11 week old sleeps in our bedroom and my husband doesn’t even wake up to him if he is crying. It’s just me and him. I love our night feeds together

  • It’s hilarious. Definitely resonates with me as I sit in the office for the 2nd night in a row while baby fusses and refuses to sleep, so Daddy can sleep after a sleepless week (for me) dealing with 2 sick kids.

  • Hehehe yes.. well my husband gave me the Master with bub ( 10 weeks old tomorrow ) and he is in the spare room. And i can still hear his snoring and in so jealous !!! But im on mat leave and breast feeding so he needs his sleep to work. In the beginning i had issues with reflux and wind with the bub and he got up a few times when he heard me crying too ahaha… meanwhile her other post about judgements. Oh my lord yessss. I judged so many parents before i became one. Now i realised if your kid is alive and fed your doing great. And sleep habits are more if your getting sleep roll with whatever

  • Yep, I could associate with this. How do men sleep through it all!?

  • That was perfectly normal in my day – no snags then.

  • Oh yes, no matter what they say, men definitely get it easy where baby/child care comes into it. They have no idea!

  • It is quite funny. If only men could experience it all.

  • My husband has always been really good with night wakings. He gets up to our 2 year old while I am with our 7 month old. Even though he is amazing, I have still had nights where I can relate to this.

  • She’s a blogger – it was meant to be entertaining and nothing more.

  • I thought it was quite funny and took it as a tongue in cheek poem
