Popular Instagram page, My Burleigh Reno, shares how you can turn cheap Kmart placemats and doormats into the most stunning cushions you ever saw.

Alicia from, my.burleigh.reno, shares her clever little KMART HACK for under $10.

The Raffia throw cushions are made from just two placemats ($3ea) joined with jute twine & finished off with some raffia fringing.

Alicia said she just filled them with plastic bags to plump them up!

She used a pair of tweezers to thread both materials through the mats & lightly sprayed with water to reshape as a cushion (jute twine from bunnings & raffia from Spotlight)

Alicia has also made Jute floor mats into an outdoor cushion.

“I’ve made two sizes. $15 a mat, 3 mats in total. I filled the large one with 2 pillows. The small one I filled with two cushion inserts. (Fillers pulled from my linen cupboard)”

  • Used as a mat over carpet it may damage the carpet with the friction of you walking on it or vacuuming. It makes grooves if used on lino or vinyl floor coverings at all (from personal experience)

  • These are gorgeous! I hate cushions, but would totally go for these. I’m not arty at all, though, so I’ll have to ask my beloved to work his magic and make them for me!

  • Very creative but I’d imagine them to be uncomfortable and rough

  • Not really my thing. I want to get old of old upholstery samples and have a muck around with them.

  • Very clever and they look very elegant well done

  • They photograph well but would not be practical in a family home.

  • Nice idea !
I’ve used doormats as well to make cushions and tote bags in the past. They look lovely.

  • I suppose that’s clever, but I wouldn’t fuss around this much.

  • But why would you want to? Unless you’re the arty crafty type looking for a new project. You can buy cushions from Kmart for cheaper then these

  • Love the pot plant ones …and as far as the cushions go, I feel I would just use them for decoration.
