Woman charged with trying to abduct a child from a house that she had allegedly broke into.
A woman allegedly burst into the Iodide Street home at BROKEN HIILL around 8.30pm on Friday night.
Police said the intruder stole a stash of jewellery and a mobile phone before walking into a kids play room and picking up a five-year-old boy.
The child tried breaking free, police said, while his siblings screamed out to their parents who were in the backyard at the time.
Police allege the woman was still holding the child when his mother and father raced into the house and confronted her.
The woman then dropped the boy and ran out of the house before jumping into a gold Holden Commodore station wagon and fleeing.
Police said the vehicle was being driven by a man.
Following inquiries, the 27-year-old woman was arrested at a home on Gaffney Lane just after midnight.
She was taken to Broken Hill Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, and take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage.
The woman was refused bail in Broken Hill Local Court on Saturday and will reappear at the same court on Monday.
Investigations are continuing and police are urging, any witnesses or anyone with information to contact Broken Hill Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
