DOZENS of students have been struck down ill after a suspected bad batch of vaccinations administered the day before NAPLAN tests.

Students at Marymount College at Burleigh Heads were given vaccinations of tetanus and rubella on Monday with dozens suffering allergic reactions requiring medical attention.

Many went home sick and some had still not recovered by this morning – the day of critical NAPLAN tests.

Parents have told The Courier-Mail that the school’s sick bay facilities were overwhelmed and some kids were left waiting in hallways while others called their parents to take them to medical centres.

Comment was being sought from Marymount College and Gold Coast Health, reports Courier Mail.

  • Wouldn’t the anti vaxxers have a field day with this information?! I hope they don’t forget to add it was possibly a bad batch of vaccines, this is not saying all vaccines are bad

  • this is a bit scary, always hate the idea of sending the kids to school when this is happening just because I now it has weird effects. Would rather go to the dr then home to rest

  • Never a good plan to administer a vaccination a day before Naplan / any exams. All vaccinations can cause side effects as we all should know.

  • A few minutes after my TB Vaccination done at school, I fainted. When the teacher helped me up off the floor I vommited so they had the concrete floor in the hallway to clean up.

  • Luckily there is catch up dates available so they should all still be able to sit the missed tests.

  • It should be noted that ths is unusual enough to ke the news. Vaccinations are normally very safe.

  • I don’t really think this should be published until it has been proven one way or the other. The anti vax movement is growing all the time, stories like these will just give them more ammo. And it could be not true
