Cadbury has announced it will lower the price of its family block, but there’s one catch…

The milk block as we know it will also be smaller.

The news has caused an outrage online, with fans slamming the brand for “ripping off” customers.

The Cadbury Dairy Milk Blocks will reduce in size from 200g to 180g.

The announcement on the company’s Facebook page on Thursday sent Aussies into a meltdown.

“Haven’t you already reduced the block before” one customer asked.

Another added: “Family block will now be the size of a Snack bar! Consumers being ripped off again!!”

“Seriously? How many millions do you make in a year that you need to ‘reduce’ costs,” a third argued.

“Don’t call it a family block anymore. Tasting block for couples.”

Cadbury statement

“It’s been four years since we last reviewed the size of our Cadbury blocks but due to increasing costs, it just isn’t sustainable for us to absorb these costs any longer. Instead of raising the price of our Cadbury Dairy Milk blocks, we decided to reduce the size slightly,” the company wrote in an online statement.

“Rather than raising the recommended retail price, we’ve made the call to reduce the size of our Cadbury family blocks, and also bring down the recommended retail price slightly, so that our blocks can continue to be an affordable treat for all Australians.

“We know some will be disappointed by this change, but we want to keep offering you the best value and best tasting chocolate we can.”

  • Im glad they were honest about it but its still a way to reduce the size and increase the price. If it was a lesser price per gm they would have left it as the same size and dropped the price.

  • At least they were up front about it.

  • I am with the Mum’s here –
I only buy chocolate when it’s on special. Cadbury is only one brand we like everything has gone up and will forever! That’s ok I will hunt for bargains!

  • Why are people so upset – they do this all the time but usually don’t tell us!

  • At first I was upset due to less chocolate per block, but then I probably eat too much of it any way so they are doing me a favour I guess. Haha.

  • I love it when people are outraged over companies wanting to increase their profits.

  • I only buy chocolate when it’s on special anyway. They did announce that they were reducing the RRP too.

  • This is all about making more profit for Cadbury. Saying that they are doing people a favour and that it is healthier to eat less chocolate is just a weak excuse to use to sneak in more profits. If they really care about people’s health, why don’t they reduce the sugar and fat content in their products. Another option is they could create another additional product that is more health conscious by adding more cocoa and less sugar and fat. Why not create an extra product that is not as bad for you.

  • But are they going to reduce the price?

  • I respect that they announced it and didn’t just try and sneak it in.

  • Unfortunately I love Cadbury’s chocolate so I’ll still end up buying it. What they are really doing is what many other companies do but they are letting us know in advance. At least they are reducing the price as well as the size

  • I agree with Mom87251. They have reduced size AND price so you are not being ripped off.

  • I do not see the problem. The block of chocolate is only being reduced marginaly and the price is reduced. How many other companies just reduce the size and never tell anyone. If you are not happy with it. Buy some other cheap brand and you will soon go back to Cadbury
