The parents of a tiny baby waiting for a new heart is urging people to become organ donors.
Born with half a heart, Charlie Douthwaite had open heart surgery when he was just three days old after being born weighing just 6lbs 5oz at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
His family are now urging everyone to sign the organ donation register to help people like baby Charlie.
Mum, Tracie Wright’s Facebook appeal has gone viral after her plea was shared by more than 72,000 people.
In the post she urges anyone who sadly loses their baby to think about donating their organs.
‘It’s such an amazing gift to be able to offer someone,’ she writes.
‘And I’d like to think it would offer someone great comfort knowing their beautiful baby never dies and lives on and helped in a way that can’t ever be described.
‘I want to try and get this message as far and wide as I possibly can in order to try and help my baby. Can everyone please share, ask your friends and family to share and keep sharing and try getting this message all over the world, hopefully someone out there might see and may think about or even donate the most precious gift to us.’
We hope little Charlie gets a donor match very soon!
Earlier this week we shared the story of two brave little girls who share their special requests before under going heart surgery. Read their story HERE.
