A German couple accidentally left their newborn in the back of a taxi they took home from the hospital.

Hamburg police said on Monday the couple took the baby’s one-year-old sibling out of the car, paid the driver and said goodbye — then realised someone was missing as the taxi pulled away.

The father ran after the taxi but was unable to draw the driver’s attention.

Calls to the taxi service failed to locate the baby.

The driver, unaware of his sleeping stowaway, parked the taxi in an underground garage while he took his lunch break.

The driver then picked up a fare at the airport several kilometres away and the new passenger noticed the baby.

The driver swiftly called police and after a quick check-up from an ambulance crew, the baby and its grateful parents were reunited.

OMG! Can you top this mishap as a new parent?

  • It doesn’t seem plausible but they had their one year old and realised very soon. Good outcome thankfully.

  • Oh goodness! I don’t understand how that can Happen! So lucky that it enede up all ok! Reminds me when my grandma had twins and she went for a stroll to the corner shop. The double pram was too big to fit inside, so she parked it out the front while she ran in to get a couple things (totally different in the 50’s!) She got her tings, walked the short distance home and then realised she walked home with out the twins lol Lucky they were just still sitting in the pram where she had left them.

  • How could they forget their baby. At least one of the parents would have been in the back with the baby. How could the Mother forget since she just gave birth. Luckily the child was returned unharmed. The only mishap I had was getting off the bus with my baby and removing the wrong pram (they had hooks on the outside of the buses). Luckily someone noticed me waving my arm and the bus driver stopped and got me the correct pram.

  • What a way for a baby to start it’s life, poor parents, you would feel so guilty, but more and more people are stressed and time poor that this can easily happen.

  • Poor parents. Lack of sleep and potentially only having had the baby for a few days. Can see how it could happen

  • Can never imagine this happening to me – even the one year old would be chattering about the new baby.

  • Oh my. Not sure I could forget a person that just came out of my body in a painful way. I can imagine with a 1 year old they would be very busy and exhausted, people can forget anything.

  • Nooo, how could they forget. Gee, severe baby brain.

  • I honestly don’t understand how you can forget a child but thankfully this story has a happy ending.

  • OMG, that poor family. I have heard many stories of forgotten newborns and I can understand. Bearing in mind, this family forgot momentarily but then the stress at trying to chase down and find their baby would have been so traumatic. Good result in the end and I’ve no doubt they will never do this again.

  • Oh, that would’ve been such a scary feeling. What a story for the kid later! When my first was 2 weeks old she got locked alone in the baby change room due to a ridiculous self-locking door interconnected to the loo in the shopping centre. I freaked! Centre management were closed, so the fire brigade had to come & remove the door while I sobbed & a tonne of people watched my early motherhood fail on their way to the bathrooms!! Hahaha. So bad. My sweet girl slept through the whole saga :)
