Parents are sharing their growing disappointment and trust in Huggies nappies after one mum shared that her babies nappy exploded with a gel-like substance.

Mum’s Grapevine shared a post from Lion Bear (that has since been deleted) asking parents – Are your Huggies exploding?
“Mums (and dads) are reporting Huggies nappies with Micky Mouse on them are ‘exploding’ with a gel-like substance leaking out.”

The original post from LION BEAR read:

“Bad morning to you too Huggies Australia!

Your new Micky Mouse range nappies are absolutely DISGRACEFUL! I am so pissed!

Especially when it comes down to a brand that allows themselves to charges $30 for baby’s nappies. When you pay that amount anyone expects to get a high-quality product.

After starting using those new nappies recently for my 2 kids I have realised that they are getting full way quicker compare to your old one.
But that is the least of the problems.

They barely hold for 8 hours overnight (not even close to 12 hours as your packet states or like your old nappies with Winnie the Poo you recently change).

Once there is starting to be an over leak your nappies starts to DISINTEGRATE!

In this photos attached, you can see how I found my baby this morning opening his onesie. What a s**t way to wake up when you need to jump him quickly to the shower every morning. I thought the first nappy was a bad one – but is clearly since you changed your whole range.

If someone else is manufacturing for you this nappies you should get rid of him asap for your own sake.

If you think this post is overreacting, well, it’s not! – not when you pay $30 a packet and definitely when it comes to your own kids!

If I were to buy a home brand nappies of a small brand I pay cheap for I would suck it up – you get what you pay for… right? well… not in your case.

I am expecting a proper resolution and response ASAP and I hope you come up with a really good one!

Look forward to hearing back from you.”

Other parents have shared their negative experiences as well

Katie shared, “Yes, we’ve had quite a few of the new Mickey Mouse range explode on us too! The quality is so, so bad!! I will be trying other brands from now on. Not happy at all.”

Rocq shared, “These new Mickey ones definitely DON’T hold as much as the old Pooh ones, I change my son once through the night and the past 3 nights he has wet through since I have got these new nappies! NOT HAPPY HUGGIES.”

Daniella said, “Mine have been doing this for a couple of months now, not quite to this extent but the girls 10-15kg nappies with Minnie Mouse was doing it and also sometimes my littles ones newborn nappies with the Winnie the poo. I was wondering what the gel beads on her bottom were from! So bad….”

Bella wrote, “Although we haven’t experienced an explode of the nappy. They are definitely not the same quality as the original Winnie the Pooh ones. These Mickey Mouse nappies seem to be a lot thinner and of very poor quality.”

Katrice said, “I havent had them explode but they are crap. Side tags ripping off, nappies falling down.”

  • I gave up on Huggies pretty early on. So many better brands out there and for less! Save your money!

  • Got to wonder just how many hours was the nappy left on without changing.

  • I loved Huggies when my girls were little but when I had my son I had an exploding nappy, all that jelly stuff all over him. He needed a good bath afterwards. I just put it down to that maybe because he was a boy they were somehow different. Switched brands then and was happy with another brand after that.

  • I never had a problem with Huggies, sounds like they are going downhill now.

  • Wow, Huggies nappies were always my go to for my son when he was in them. Quality has obviously changed.

  • Time for cloth nappies!

  • I only used cloth nappies but always had packet of disposables on hand for my husband to use. Where we live it was too expensive to buy even the cheapest brand. Those snugglers nappies are probably produced elsewhere and definitely not up to Australian standards.

  • I haven’t used Huggies for our youngest one at all.
The previous ones we found the elastic was too tight for the size of the nappies and left red marks on the stomach and legs of our baby. Sometimes they looked quite nasty even if I put the nappy on a bit loosely knowing I was going to change it again soon if we were going out.

  • Was this an error in the manufacturing or are they all like that?
    Hopefully that batch was recalled.

  • that looks bad and really unhygienic.

  • I haven’t bought Huggies in ages but I have had the tabs rip off so I couldn’t use a nappy before. They’re no better than other brands.

  • I use Huggies all the time, I did try the Mickey Mouse one for a little while, and you could see the quality wasn’t there, they were so hard and my daughter started to get really bad nappy rash from them so I switched back to the normal Huggies and I don’t have any issues, the Mickey Mouse ones never exploded on me thought.

  • Can clearly see that, that nappy is overdue for a change.
I’ve never had a problem with huggies nappies. Changed the babies nappy every feed or when it needed to be changed.

  • This is shocking – should be recalled and money repaid.

  • Is it possible that this nappy was on to long even if it says on packet 12 hours there is no way I would leave a nappy on that long
In saying that I used new born huggies nappies on my new little bub and didn’t like them I now use the Aldi ones which are way more cheaper and haven’t had one problem
