A flight was forced to turn back to Saudi Arabia after a mother reportedly left her baby at the airport.

Kuala Lumpur-bound Saudia flight SV832 set off from Jeddah, but the pilot requested to turn back to the airport after a passenger told crew she had forgotten her baby in the boarding area of the terminal.

A video in which the pilot can be heard relaying the story to air traffic control was uploaded to Youtube and has since gone viral, with more than 50,000 views, reports The Independent.

“May God be with us. Can we come back or what?” the pilot says over the radio.

“This flight is requesting to come back…a passenger forgot her baby in the waiting area, the poor thing,” an ATC operative can be heard saying.

The pilot is asked to repeat the request, to which he replies: “We told you, a passenger left her baby in the (airport) terminal and refuses to continue the flight.”

“Ok, head back to the gate,” says ATC. “This is totally a new one for us!”

No further information on how the mother managed to forget her child has been released.

  • Good grief. How on earth could you do this?

  • My heart it racing reading this story. I would have gone into cardiac arrest knowing I left my baby behind.
Did the flight take off or just leave the terminal, so it just pooped around the tarmac or what?

  • How can you forget your own child. I’m just speechless.

  • seriously how do you even do this? I’d forget luggage before I forgot a child!

  • Um, how does this happen? And how does it take you that long to realise? There is a whole lot of time spent with all passengers getting on the plane, getting ready for take off, etc…. before the plane then takes off. More than 30 minutes I’d say. Just a little concerning.

  • Umm I’m not quite sure what to say to this one ????

  • How can you “forget” your child?? I just cannot understand that.

  • Sorry – just can’t understand how you could accidently ‘forget’ your child/baby at the departure gates. When you are flying you don’t stop checking everything, your purse, your baggage, and your travelling companions including your child.

  • Whaaaa?? I’ve always thought Home Alone rather ridiculous (despite loving the film of course!) because I figured no mother in the universe could do that.
A severe case of baby brain?!

  • Um, what? I thought that only happened in Home Alone!

  • How on earth did she forget her baby?! I understand maybe walking Away for a second then realising, but boarding a flight and taking off, that’s not a short process!
