Police are investigating the death of a toddler in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services were called to a family home at 5am yesterday, with initial reports suggesting the three-year-old was ill and suffering from a fever.

Paramedics arrived and found the child in cardiac arrest.

They performed CPR all the way to Nepean Hospital, but she could not be saved.

A crime scene was set up at the property, which police had under guard for more than 12 hours.

Neighbours have told 9NEWS forensic officers were in and out of the house all day.

Detectives also door knocked the street, asking residents if they heard or saw anything suspicious between 8pm Monday and the early hours of yesterday morning.

It’s unclear how the little girl died, but it’s hoped police will have more answers when a post mortem is carried out later today.

More details to come…

  • A small child can succumb to illness so quickly especially if her immune system is compromised.

  • I really hope nothing sinister happened to this little girl. It seems odd though, so no doubt my hopes will be dashed
