Total stranger grabs pregnant woman’s coffee and throws it away.

The mum-to-be wrote about what happened in the BeyondtheBump subreddit, in a post called “Random woman literally took away my coffee? Is this grounds for murder?”

The woman explained that she’s 36 weeks pregnant and is “huge. Massive. Uncomfortable. Tired and grumpy.”

She was at her local coffee shop, minding her own business, “with my effing cup of coffee that had to be remade, because some random grandmother decided that, as I’m pregnant, I shouldn’t be allowed to have caffeine.”

The woman further explained that she was attempting to receive her coffee order when a “grandma” told her, “You can’t have that.”

At first, the woman didn’t realise she was being spoken to. Then, according to her things got horribly worse.

“Me – It’s one cup, it’s fine.
“GM – NO YOU CAN’T HAVE IT YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED (takes cup from my hand and drops it, full, into the trash next to the counter).
“Me – You cannot be serious. It’s fine. My doctor even says it’s fine. (I looked at the barista, who is just standing there, mouth agape. She lets me know she’ll make me another).
“Me, to GM – Please leave me alone. I’m tired, and want my coffee. I get one cup a day, this is it. Please go away.
“GM, NO YOU CAN’T HAVE IT YOU’RE PREGNANT IT WILL MAKE YOU HAVE THE BABY NOW.
“Barista hands me my cup directly, and this insane woman GOES TO TAKE IT FROM ME AGAIN.
“I literally shouted PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE. YOU’RE MAKING ME UNCOMFORTABLE AND I DON’T WANT YOU THIS CLOSE.”

Commenters on the Reddit thread were furious at the outrageous incident, especially those who’d experienced similar pregnancy-related judgements.

  • That would have been a terrible confrontation to deal with. She chose good words to identify she was feeling uncomfortable and wanted space.

  • There is so much stuff we are already told not to do while pregnant, we don’t need strangers making decisions for us!

  • Honestly, people really can cross a line!

  • That woman had no right to take the coffee from her and throw it in the bin. Maybe she thought she was doing the right thing but, if so do it to your own family and not someone you don’t know. I could never be this polite to a total stranger who threw my coffee away. I’m glad this soon to be Mum was given another coffee for free but it doesn’t make what happened go away either

  • Wow! For starters it was non of the GMs business if you have coffee when pregnant but how dare she take it from the lady & throw it in the bin. I drank heaps of coffee when I was pregnant. If someone did that to me I think I would go crazy as no one messes with my coffee.

    • Agreed. Never pick a fight with a pregnant lady and her coffee!!!

  • My blood is boiling reading this.
The pregnant lady was way too polite to the old lady. She had no business what so ever saying or song anything to that poor woman.
I wish someone had stepped in to defend her

  • Oh my gosh, I felt stressed just reading that, what an invasion of privacy on every level!
Hope by now you have recovered from this awful experience.

  • How ridiculous!! When grandma was pregnant did she stop drinking alcohol, coffee and tea(also has too much caffeine in it)? I’m willing to bet she drank at least one of those more than was recommended.
When will people learn to be respectful when they think they must intervene?

  • OMG. That is wrong and inappropriate on so many levels. Talk about boundaries, crazy behaviour and just plain wrong behaviour.

  • That’s insane that grandmother shouldn’t be allowed out in public!

  • That grandmother is crazy. Actually the Bsrister perhsps should have call the police or security. The pregnant lady could have her charged with assault! I wonder how many other pregnant ladies have cooled this from her!

  • People are.so quick to judge I had gestational diabetes with both pregnancies and iT wasn’t what i ate and i was small wore my same clothes size 10 through my pregnancy while i was seeing a endocrinologist they said to have coffee as it helps with controlling your levels so i would get a week coffee nothing wrong with either of my girls

  • I would of went ape shit at her. Who dare she think she is trying to tell you what you can and can’t do

  • I’ve been told I had to eat more by random strangers as I was ‘too small’ for 9 months pregnant..

  • Caffeine is still an addictive substance but it will not cause her to have the baby right that second and also she isn’t addicted to it like 4-6 cups or more a day. I don’t feel the baby will be born with withdrawals and it wasn’t the grandma’s right to do that.
