Two videos going viral at the moment are shocking the internet and leaving people shaking their heads over concerns for the kids safety. Is it warranted? They are pro’s after all… Right?

One video going viral is of pro surfer, Koby Abberton, out on his surfboard with his two year old son, Makua.

He soon had people asking “where is his life jacket!?” Surely just in case never hurts?

Another video causing debate is of Aussie pro skateboarder, Vaughn Marks, skating with his little one without any protection.

He had people horrified asking “where on earth is the helmet and protective pads?!”

Accidents happen, right? It really is not worth the risk.

So just because they are pro’s does that mean they should be ditching “safety first” like other parents?

  • know a family who visit family who have a pool. Their rule for their young children is no vest – no going in the pool even if there is a responsible person to go in the water with them. Before they get on anything with they have to put their helmets. Depending what they are doing the also have to put elbow and knee pads on especially if they are going on a hard surface

  • Maybe I’m old fashioned, but think this is playing with lives !

  • Doesn’t take much to give the child protective gear.

  • Safety first! Because anything can go wrong in a flash second, and you don’t want to be the idiot who didn’t put a life jacket on your kid and they drown.

  • They are not thinking of the childs safety just thinking about getting the child to love the sport. However, if they have an accident without protection for the child and they get hurt guess what? The child won’t ever want to go back. They need to use common sense and protect their special little children.

  • I’m sure all parents take calculated risks with their children. and i refuse to judge others, however I don’t see the need to put this type of thing on social media.

  • safety first people, protect your children

  • While I advocate you do what’s best for your children you still need to follow the laws and if you have a following you also need to keep in mind that you are a role model.

  • Just because you’re a pro at something doesn’t mean that accidents don’t happen. Imagine the guilt if something ever happened to you child all because you didn’t put their safety first

    • I agree in this instance – water is so unpredictable and roads are just so hard.

  • I have to agree with safety for these little ones – a life jacket for the ocean activity and a helmet for the skating activity. Better to be prepared for the unknown and protect little ones heads and bodies from any possible accidents.

  • When the parent is a pro, it doesn’t mean the child is a pro ! Safety first for all of us !

  • Safety first is important and lots can go wrong in the ocean.

  • As an adult you can consent, as a child you cannot.

  • being the child of a pro surfer they could probably swim before they could walk. But they shouldn’t be complacent and really should put a life jacket on the kid if they really want to involve them.

  • I think pros can get over confident; they forget their kds don’t. Have the same skill level.
