Home Alone is set to be given a reboot by Disney, sparking anger from some fans who urged the movie giant to leave the Christmas classic alone.

The 1990 movie will be ‘reimagined for a new generation’, according to Disney chief Bob Iger, who revealed it will be reworked for the company’s new streaming service Disney+, shares Daily Mail.

The announcement comes after Macaulay Culkin, who played the main character Kevin McCallister in the 1990 Christmas classic tweeted: ‘I hope the Space Jam reboot kicks off a whole slew of 80s/90s sports movie remakes. Field of Dreams with @ChrisEvans, A League of Their Own with @KristenBell and @TessaThompson. Also it would be cool if Daffy Duck was in all of these.’

One Twitter user replied to Culkin’s tweet joking ‘look what you’ve done’ while others called for him to play his dad in the remake.

Other movies to be given a new lease of life include Night at the Museum and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Disney owns the Home Alone franchise after buying film studio 21st Century Fox earlier this year.

The new service Disney+ launches in the U.S. on November 12 this year and is expected to hit the UK in 2020.

Many fans of the original two Home Alone films were left outraged by the latest news, as they demanded that Disney left the franchise alone.

One hit out: ‘NOOOO DISNEY STAY AWAY!!! STOP TRYING TO REBOOT EVERYTHING. HOME ALONE IS PERFECT THE WAY IT IS. STAY IN YOUR LANE DISNEY. STAY IN YOUR LAAANNNEEEE’

Another criticised: ‘disney really gotta make a reboot of home alone along with all the live action movies because apparently they got no originality anymore’

Adding to the criticism, one person blasted: ‘@Disney do not remake home alone! Your will ruin the original. There’s only one @IncredibleCulk’

Another said, ‘Hey @Disney remember the #HomeAlone sequels after 2? They were awful, no need to reboot Home Alone. HOWEVER if you do a straight sequel with a grown up Kevin (Played by Macaulay Culkin) with his kids having to stop the Wet/Sticky Bandits (Played by Pesci and Stern) You got a deal.’

  • Haha so many disney ones being remade. I LOVE Home alone so I would be curious to see what they do with it and if it would be funnier- I can’t see how the 90’s one can be topped though!

  • They are never good as the original as they hold so many memories. Get creative movie makers and come up with something new pleas

  • I think it’s sad that so many remakes need to be made. Aren’t we creative enough anymore to make originals?

  • NO to a reboot, but a sequal with Macaulay Culkin as the dad I would be into watching.

  • I want Macauly to be the dad of the kid this time and it will be something that would be interesting to watch.

  • Not sure if a remake of Home Alone would be any good but I would watch it just to find out. Home Alone is s fantastic movie

  • No way they could never make it as good!

  • Can’t stand the original so they can only improve it by remaking it

  • So scary! Hopefully they can find a better way of making sure this doesn’t happen again. Glad the boys are ok

  • Not sure it would work ! loved the original though.

  • Leave classics alone!! Stop re-making movies, it makes me cranky!

  • The original is always the best. I liked The Lion King but preferred the old version – too many noticeable changes. If they can work it then try it.

  • if there is a market, not really my thing

  • Not sure a remake would work but as a kid I loved the original.

  • The original Home Alone stands the test of time and I am not sure it needs a remake.
But every generation wants to put their stamp on songs, movies and other creative pursuits.
I have loved some remakes and others have left me scratching my head and wondering why?
It would love to see more original concepts for movies being made and distributed.

    • Oops! I would – not – it would! Typo!
