Do your kids LOVE Hi-5? Ours certainly do! Find out about the fabulous entertainers behind the beloved children’s group, as they make their return to free-to-air television, thanks to the Mouths of Mums Q&A with Hi-5.

Stevie – What made you get into children’s entertainment?

I was studying acting at NIDA and heard Hi-5 were auditioning and it was something I just had a great feeling about. I thought “that sounds like a bit of fun” little did I know how much fun I would have on this journey.

Mary – What made you get into children’s entertainment?

Before Hi-5, I was studying Primary and Secondary Teaching, Music Theatre, doing Children’s Parties and I did a year Performing in Japan at Universal Studios as characters like Princess Fiona from Shrek, Cinderella and Marilyn Monroe!! I’ve always loved performing, teaching and playing with kids so Hi-5 was the dream job for me.

Stevie –  How do you unwind after a show?

It’s hard to unwind but most days end with watching a movie in a hotel room or having dinner together with the rest of the cast, it’s a lovely way to debrief on the day.

Mary – Kids always ask funny questions, what has been the best one you have been asked?

The Weirdest question I have been asked was when we were filming the songs of the week for the new series. Between the songs a child came up and looked up at me with disbelief, tugged on my dress and asked “Are you real?” I said of course I’m real! He then replied “if you are real, then how did you get out of my TV at home?”

Lauren – What are we going to see this season?

We have a brand new house. The Hi-5 House, with 3 new friends joining Stevie and I, Dayen, Ainsley and Mary.  I have moved into the Word Play segment this year with my best friend chats and we have SO much fun learning all about language.

There are brand new songs and we have an extra segment called Chatsworld, which is all about Chats and her new friends Tinka and the bookworms.

Lauren – I think I can sing all of your songs off by heart, do you have a fav Hi-5 song?

Yes I dont blame you. Hi-5 songs are VERY catchy. My favourite is Santa Claus Is Coming. I get goose bumps every time I hear it.

Ainsley – When are you guys back on air with new shows?

We are back in the air right now! You can catch our new tv series Hi-5 House on channel 11, Monday to Friday at 9am. We are also heading back into the studio very soon to film season

Ainsley –   Do you write your own songs?

Hi-5 work closely with our composer to come up with our catchy tunes. He constructs the melody and form and then Hi-5 come in and add their own personal flare.

  • Hi-5 are neck and neck favourites with the Wiggles for my nieces two little boys. They make singing fun, and keep kids entertained for hours. Pop a Hi-5 or Wiggles dvd on, and her two boys are happy as can be.
