The reasons why we can’t get 1kg blocks of mainland cheese is not what we have been told it is because of,
1) profit margins for the supermarkets.
2) sales of mainland 1kg blocks were a threat to Australian brands.
Up until the mainland 1kg blocks disappeared from the shelves it was selling at the same or lower price of Australian brands.
Have a look at the wollies coles and iga now and you’ll see just about the only 1kg cheese is their own house brands., these items give the best profit.
If you do a search for mainland 2kg blocks you will find that it is not much dearer than Australian brands per kilo

The whole family loves the taste of this cheese! It’s always on the shopping list!

Nice taste my favourite cheddar cheese .
I love it melted on toast or melted on pizza or on spaghetti bog .
Easy to slice not crumbly and tastes delicious.

So super yum and has enough depth of flavour without being to strong for the kids taste buds. However it has gotten too expensive – although all cheeses seem to have become very expensive.

Mainland us the only cheese that has a real taste I am very disappointed you cannot buy it anymore in Australia and I would like to know where I can purchase it from please

This cheese used to come in a 1kg block. At some point, supermarkets stopped stocking it because it was “more affordable” (presumably overall) for a 750g block. After harassing my local supermarkets to no avail, I hunted it down in an independent supermarket on the other side of town. They eventually stopped stocking it, so I found it in another independent supermarket and would make a special trip there to buy it, hey, I can adapt. But last week when I went to buy it they informed me that Mainland no longer sell a 1kg block of cheese. Well it’s not viable for me to buy a smaller block of cheese is it, so I’m not sure what their plan was, but after 29 years of faithful customership and telling everyone else how good a product it is, they’ve finally pissed me off by trying to force me (through lack of options) to buy more expensive, smaller blocks. That aint gonna happen So after all these years, I’m out. No more Mainland for me. I’ll go back and find another favourite that comes in 1kg blocks. What an absolute tragic ending to what was such a superior product. Mainland, you can go suck a “cheese stick.”

It’s a great cheese to have. Price is a bit high for me but it’s a more authentic taste compared to the processed junk out there

I find that buying in the block is more cost effective and can cut or grate as you need. If its been in the fridge for the while I grate it and freeze with no problems

This Tasty cheese is definitely our family’s favorite and I always buy the cheese when it’s on special as it’s too expensive for me to buy all the time.

I love this cheese. It is great on its own and it also melts well for cheese toasties! It doesn’t have a plastic taste like other big cheddar cheese block brands.

I am a cheese whore, I just love it so much. Mainland is my second favourite brand. Great for sandwiches and cooking, chunky and tangy

Mainland Cheese have tasty cheese and a good product range and I do like to sample lots of different cheese. This tasty cheddar is good for cheese melts.

Mainland produce some quite nice cheeses, and this one is no exception. It is really quite tasty, not too sharp, and slices quite nicely for sandwiches or on it’s own.

Mainland make great cheeses and the tasty cheddar cheese is delicious.I use it in my luch box sandwiches and also for cooking,a very good brand!

Oh my gosh Mainland cheese is so tasty. I love it in salads, grated on bakes, on bikkies – preferably rice crackers! I really adore the Mainland range.

Love the taste great perfect for cooking, grilling, melting in salads on cracker. It does crumble up but I don’t mind. It’s strong in flavour it’s what tasty should be

Really amazing taste

This cheese is very tasty but I find it crumbles when I cut it into slices which is frustrating when making a sandwich, having to pick up all the crumbs.

This is a great cheese. It is a little harder to slice than other cheeses but it is lovely and creamy and is super versatile.
