Ribs to die for.

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 800gms Pork Spare Ribs
  • 3 Tbsp Hoisin Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 strips Orange Rind
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp Honey
  • 2 Tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 Tsp Tabasco sauce
  • 2 Tsp Minced Ginger
  • 2 Cloves Minced Garlic
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
  • 2 Cups Water
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • Spring Onion to garnish
  • Peanuts to garnish

Method

  1. Cut the pork ribs to pieces and blanch with boiling water for about 3 minutes (this is to remove impurities and blood). Drain well and wipe dry with tea towel. Season with salt and pepper all over.
  2. Heat oil in frying pan and cook ribs over medium-high heat until lightly brown.
  3. Add ginger and garlic and saute.
  4. Pour sauce and water over ribs and bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 3 hours or until ribs are softened and sauce reduced to 1/5 and thickened. Add water if sauce begins to dry out during simmering as ribs are not soft yet.
  6. Garnish with spring onion cut diagonally and peanuts.
  7. Serve hot with rice.

  • There are a lot of ingredients which are not available in our small town. The end result looks delicious so might have to talk other family members to make this for our next visit. Can’t wait

  • The long list of ingredients is rather off putting, but the directions for cooking are very simple and the picture makes the dish look really delicious. Will definitely have a go.

  • I think the long list of ingredients make this seem harder than it is. I love the finished product though and it has my mouth watering.

  • Not for me but my husband might like it (although he prefers meat without bones).
