It’s the end of the season for plums but they are perfect to make this easy homemade jam.

Ingredients (makes 3 Jars)

  • 500g ripen plums cut in halves (do not remove stone)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water

Method

  1. Rinse the fruit and cut them in halves then put in a large saucepan, including plum pits.
  2. Add the water to the pot, cook the plums on a medium heat. Bring to the boil and then reduce heat a little. Turn off heat and let cool when the fruit has softened.
  3. Use a sieve to separate pits and discard, return fruit mixture to saucepan, and add sugar. Stir until sugar dissolved and continue to cook till you feel the jam has reached the thickness of your liking. Pour into sterilised jars.

Notes

Nothing beats homemade jam like this simple easy one. Once you master the basic recipe, there are many variations you can adapt to add a star element at the breakfast.
