A middle eastern very healthy halwa for sweet lovers


Ingredients (serves 10)

  • 500 gms Yellow split peas
  • 750ml Milk
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Butter/ margarine/ ghee
  • 3 TBS Desiccated coconut
  • 13 tbs Almonds

Method

  1. Soak yellow split peas over night.
  2. Cook them in milk until they are fully cooked.
  3. Mash yellow split peas in a chopper and make a paste.
  4. Now add ghee in the pan and add peas paste. Keep on stirring until ghee separates.
  5. Add sugar and desiccated coconut. Allow it to cool amd them decorate it with chopped almonds. Enjoy either hot or cold.

  • I have only recently discovered split peas and lentils. Only used them in savoury dishes tho, interesting to see them in a sweet recipe

  • Thanks for this dessert. I have a lot of yellow split peas and now have another recipe for them! It looks like a delicious dessert – will use butter in the recipe – not a fan of margarine in cooking.
