Cadbury has introduced new Roses flavours and it seems some chocolate lovers aren’t too happy about it…

Cadbury’s Roses have always been the ultimate crowd pleaser, with a flavour for everyone, but the confectionary brand’s recent attempt to reinvent the wheel has fallen short. Classics like strawberry creme and hazelnut swirl have been given the boot, reportedly as a response to customer feedback according to news.com.au.

Christmas Is Ruined

Even though the new Roses range has been available since August last year, there was a rise in dissatisfied consumers coinciding with the start of the festive season. It isn’t December 1st if you’re not eating chocolate while watching a Christmas movie right? As a result, more than 5000 Aussies have signed the petition to bring back the original flavours, claiming that Christmas was ruined by the updated selection. “Christmas was spoiled for thousands by Cadburys,” wrote one disappointed customer. Slightly dramatic, but we can see where they’re coming from.

A Mixed Bag

To replace the traditional line up, Cadbury has included a new take on the old peppermint creme, and added a white raspberry and vanilla nougat to the mix. Criticism of the new flavours has gone beyond just general dislike. Those with food intolerances say that the changes mean they can no longer enjoy Roses. “I’m coeliac and want it changed back, the new flavours not only taste bad but they are no longer safe for me to eat,” one customer said. While the majority of feedback has been negative, with some describing the flavours as “gross”and “awful”, some have praised the revamp. “Just wanted to say we loved the new Roses choccies,” said one Facebook user. “The old ones tasted chemically and fake.”

  • I was given a tin of Roses chocolates for Christmas this year and Im still eating them. I have no complaints.

  • These “new” roses are so disappointing. Cadbury also changed their chocolate Christmas mint chocolate and they are now awful. I used to look forward to them.

  • I received a box of these for Christmas and, must say, wasn’t too impressed. My favourite one of all time is no longer included.

  • I’m a mad choc mint lover and I actually prefer the new version. I also prefer my chocolates with a harder centre rather than the soft cream so loving the new Roses. I don’t normally buy this one but they were gifted to me and we love them. The white raspberry and vanilla nougat was a fab new modern twist.

  • Mother in law pointed this out so not happy – why fix something that isn’t broken? We won’t be buying anymore.

  • I like the dark brown one but I must say that the whole lot together is a bit boring now and 2 are caramel the two pictured top left. I liked the strawberry.

  • Never liked them in the first place, so am not worried about this current furore.

  • They wouldn’t have changed it if sales where down and or people asking for change….
Change is as good as a holiday and this could be a market ploy, shapes did it when they changed to the new and now back to orginal….
Maybe they just wanted to mix it up

  • I prefer different boxes of chocolates anyway – I’ve never liked that many of the Roses flavours.

  • I made this complaint to Cadbury on 30 August last: I bought these to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. My wife loved the old Turkish delight. We are both very disappointed with the changes to our beloved Cadbury Roses chocolates. The Turkish Delight did not deliver the delight, too small, lacks flavour. This is a general dislike of the whole range. The wrapping lacks that something special, a treat, it is now just your typical celebration range. I for one will no longer view it as a treat, it lacks that more-ish appeal. I normally cannot resist another, not so now.

  • I like some of the new flavours and some of the old favourites. Not so happy about the creams being replaced with crunchy fillings. My daughter loves the crunch fillings, so I guess Cadburys can’t please everyone.

    • I love the crunchy new flavours to – love crunch and chocolate together.

  • I like to try new things which includes new foods; including chocolate and I love the new range of Rose’s chocolates. There are so many options for chocolate for everyone in stores and it is good to explore new chocolate ranges too. Chocolate is a treat food anyway!
