Russell Brand has said he believes that tickling children should be ILLEGAL – unless they’re old enough to give consent.

The comedian has vowed to punch anyone who tries to tickle his kids in the face.

The actor, who shares two daughters with wife Laura Gallacher, went as far as to say that he regrets tickling his friend David Baddiel’s son Ezra in the past.

He told The Daily Star: “To recall doing this to Ez fills me with dreadful shame and makes me want to punch myself in the face.

“Which is what I will do to anyone who tickles either of my daughters until they are old enough to decide for themselves whether they want to be tickled or not, which by my reckoning is at 35.”

The outspoken star said he “loathes” the act of tickling, and that it takes away a child’s right to “their own space and peace”.

He added: “Would you do it to an adult? Would you insert your rigid fingers into their belly or their armpits? Of course not.”

Do you think he makes a good point?

  • Even if only a baby, if he/she doesn’t like being tickled they will show negative reaction to it. I have a little one who has always enjoyed being tickled – it seems the more the better.

  • I think he is an idiot. He thinks it’s perfectly ok not to change nappies, but you can’t tickle your kids? I think its ok to do if the child is having fun and enjoying themselves, the minute it becomes distressing or un enjoyable for the child – it’s not ok anymore. Wanting to put a ban on it completely is so silly

  • Russell is becoming more and more of a douche with each passing year. Once upon a time he was funny, he needs to keep his mouth closed and opinions to himself. Let kids be kids, tickles bring giggles, and if a child doesn’t want to be tickled, as adults we know that and back off. It’s not rocket science, boundaries are boundaries, but at the end of the day I was tickled, my kids, nieces, nephews, godchildren all get tickled from time to time and it’s good old fashioned fun…..unless there is something more sinister behind it that Mr Brand himself is not admitting too.

  • Very funny he’s a comedian at the end of the day I don’t think he’s serious about what he said

  • my own kids love being tickled by myself or my husband (maybe even nan and pop) but I can say honestly if someone else was to do it – they would run a mile!

I don’t even think to do it my friends children – I just assumed it was a little personal to do to everyone!

  • I agree that we shouldn’t just tickle the child of another and that it is good to wonder that if we decide to tickle a child, is it on our own initiative or because the child makes clear it wants to be tickled.
The same goes for a hug/kiss, we don’t force our children to give a hug/kiss, we wait for the child’s initiative. Although with a baby we might.

    • Totally agree – no child should ever be forced to hug or kiss anyone. Children need to be respected in every way!

  • You know if a kid likes it or not I have no problem with people who know the child and who the parents are comfortable with tickling the child.

  • I don’t think it could be made illegal! It is however; just common sense and logic to not tickle anyone else’s child! I have never seen anyone tickle someone else’s child.

  • Waste of time worrying about his thoughts on parenting. He doesn’t even want to spend time with his kid.

  • I think we saw earlier this week that he has no parenting skills or knowledge whatsoever. I don’t have a problem with kids being tickled, as long as you stop the instant they say so, or how any discomfort.

  • I never tickled children others than my own. Are there people actually doing that?

  • I read and article about him and his lack of parenting the other day and if it is true I think he should shut up and actually parent his children before telling people what to do with their’s

  • He has a point, you don’t want a stranger doing this to your children!
