Hello!

I personally love school holiday time.

I have an extra bounce in my step, one week out from the school break, amongst my power naps (drool included) before school pick up times. I’m sooo tired. That 11 week term is a back breaker. Literally. Have you lifted your highschool child’s school bag. It’s a ton!

I love sleeping in. No school lunches. My kids graze from pantry all day. Seriously I’m not a school mum lunch queen. I gave my kids cornflakes once in zip lock bags and said they were different types of crunchy chips. Because I loathe going to supermarket just for school lunch stuff. Constantly trying to come up with decent lunch things.

Now the holidays are here, interesting events occur in my home.

For example. How do kids go into bedrooms at night and emerge next day with grass and bits that I don’t even think grow in our suburb. How did exotic bits from an Amazon make a trail through the house. How come if your human is under eleven years things attach to them and fall off in a trail of mess for mums and dads to pick up.

My youngest loves her figurines and textas and crystals and dolls and things in about eight different Blair Witch style piles around the house.

I start hearing the lyrics to homemade songs. About lost love and tragedy?? Hmm, life of a ten year old.

Bedrooms morph into the living area. I scrunch up in the corner of the couch while my child’s bedding and accessories take over.

Play dates are popular.

Pyjama days!

My eager plans to mountaineer and practice for the Kokoda trail with hikes with the kids just locally transfers to “Whose going to venture out into the front drive for the snail mail?”

Everyone suddenly can’t hear my voice. I suddenly forget I had ambition for these holidays. I think?

The illegal-at-school nail polishes comes out. For the holidays. My head swims in the toxicity of it all.

Toy Story reruns and Ice Age reruns. It takes one hour to agree on a movie, that I’m left watching.

I love burying my head in the sheets in the mornings. Knowing I don’t have to get up. No school lunches passing through my trains of thoughts again.

I know some people dread the holidays. It can be hard to be the sponge absorbing all their energy. This is the school holidays. Two weeks, noice.

Christmas holidays are the seven weeks. Better get ready to start planning the exciting things we won’t do.

  • I often hear parents complain about having the kids home and the fact its school holidays and I don’t understand. I would love to have more time doing things with my son, and bonding together in that time.

  • They are indeed. The malls will be busier and the movies packed out! A little less traffic in the mornings too.

  • I love not having to put on “out in public” clothes when I get up in the morning. Unless we’re going somewhere.

  • I love school holidays it gives me a chance to spend time with my grandkids and do lots of stuff older people do. Children love it especially in Winter whether it be cooking with Nan or tinkering with Pop. bring on the Winter holidays and enjoy little people- they are great!

  • Just to relax at home and not do an errands or school run is fantastic for me. I have
a newborn who is my third so I’m still learning to juggle all three children and share time with all of them.

  • No sleeping in in the holidays for me. We experience a bit of a challenging time with one of my foster kids who has an Attachment disorder, kleptomania & lying. Holidays can be very tiring with her and I’m afraid I’m not looking forward to it.

  • I usually had a love hate relationship with school days and school holidays. I liked them both and also hated them both at times. Now they’re long gone, I find I muss them. I am a complicated person
