Hello!

Being our first baby I wasn’t really sure that I was in full blown labour and my other half being the great procrastinator that he is was reading the hospital brochure and telling me ‘no, no, it’s just pre-labour, you’ll be fine’…

This went on for hours before I could no longer even sit still…

It was the early hours of the morning when my mother turned up, took one look at me and suggested rather strongly that it might be the right time to go to the hospital…

All three of us piled in the car (me pretty gingerly) and off we went…

On the trip we must have got nearly every red light there was, each time my boyfriend first apologising to me for stopping and then to my mother who was in the back for running it (once he realised it was safe to do so) …

Then there was the fact that the quite a bit of the trip was on the M5 motorway… Amongst the pain I was having visions of having the baby by the side of the almost deserted road… The trip was kind of surreal going that fast, and labour progressing as fast as it was…

Finally after what seemed like an eternity (reality around 20 minutes) we arrived at the hospital, I had never been so glad in my life to arrive anywhere! … And never had I ever received anything as special as I did that morning at any other destination I had travelled to… A short time later our beautiful daughter was born by emergency C-Section… Luckily very healthy and very happy!

A little over a year later, we still travel that same route quite often and I can’t help but to smile at my beautiful bub in the back seat… If only she knew about that first trip we’d all taken… Perhaps she’d suggest to Daddy that Mummy should drive!!

Post your story
  • If you haven’t you should write about this special drive to your daughter’s memories book. I am sure she will love to know it.

  • That was a wonderful story. In reality, it is these type of life memories that make family worthwhile.

  • I am glad you made it to the hospital in time and your bub was born happy and healthy. Congrats and what a great story to share with her when she is older.
