Hello!

I have recently started to learn Auslan the Australian sign language for the deaf community. It has been such and enjoyable experience and I understand a lot of schools are now starting to teach it in the early years rather than a foreign language. I am looking forward to the day where I can help a deaf stranger and put all my knowledge to use!

  • What a great thing to do. I’ve always loved learning to speak another language and I think learning sign language is a fantastic thing to do.

  • I often watch sign language people on tv and my mind boggles. They are so fast, there must be so many symbols etc to learn

  • Fascinating. I wonder if learning it can help children who have other speech difficulties or delays, and hence tantrums because they can’t communicate. Might ease them over the bumps as they work on their language….. and be so useful to help them interact more widely as you will be able to!

  • You may later be able to teach deaf children or run activity groups for them.
I’m sure it would be very rewarding.

  • Good on you – it is good to be able to use Auslan and be able to learn and use different communication systems.

    • Hope you have had the opportunity to use Auslan. Would be good to know if you have had the opportunity.
