My 15 month old is having surgery in 2 weeks to get grommets, the poor baby has had 10 ear infections in 4 months and has been hospitalised many times, looking forward to the relief but scared about her going into surgery, anyone have any words of advice or experience?

  • It is a scarey time. Medical care in Australia is excellent so you needn’t worry. I know, you’re a mum, it’s your job. Lol. Hope it went well

  • oh i had a friend who went through the same thing. Her son was fine and i’m sure you guys will be fine too. We didn’t personally go through this so all i can say is don’t stress. Try to keep cheerful for your child so she won’t be afraid of the situation. I’m sure it will all go well

  • Hugs to you Mum. No one wants their baby to have surgery. It is a common surgery. Try and be calm for your baby

  • Allow for a few quite days at home after the operation, He might be a little sore and tired afterwards. I would also get advise on pain relief and have that at home already before you go into hospital as waiting for it to be provided at the hospital on release can delay discharge for a while. Also see if he can take his fav snuggle toy with him. My son had to go under for a MRI and had to be awake before i was allowed into recovery and him having his toy with him allowed the nurses to help settle him while i was on my way to recovery. Once i was with him all he did was rest on my tummy giving huge cuddles.
