A cheeky student has been spotted ‘flipping the bird’ in an official government booklet for parents of children completing year 12.

The Queensland Department of Education document, which was released last month, pictures three students huddled over a Bunsen burner on the front cover.

At first glance, it appears to be an innocent photo, but on closer inspection, the boy on the right can be seen making an obscene hand gesture.

The official document is supposed to be a practical guide for senior schooling, with information on subjects and courses, assessments and end of year exams.

While it remains unclear whether the gesture was intended to be a subtle prank or not, the official snap has since gone viral after it was shared on Reddit.

  • Just brilliant ???????????? But definitely cheeky. Hilarious no one noticed before it was published

  • Hmm not sure if was meant to be or not, looks like he’s touching his other hand. But then again.

  • Goodness gracious – I wouldn’t have even thought of this. I personally think it is innocent and just some other teenage boys looking for something that is not there.

  • If any of the high school boys I know are anything to go by, there are no “accidents” about these things

  • I hope it was a unfortunate accident but probably not

  • He may always have held his hand like that. You can only see the tip of one finder on his other hand. To be honest I don’t take a lot of notice of hand signals as in motorsport in open wheeler cars drivers don’t have radios and use hand signals. Bear in mind that “hand” signals mean different things in different countries.

  • Not sure. I don’t see nothing wrong with that. I don’t think it was made on purpose.

  • Oh dear. Surprised it wasn’t noticed by whoever approved the photos.

  • Hahaha love it!

  • How was that even missed!

  • This is gold! I can’t believe it actually made it to print without anyone noticing

    Reply

  • Given where his hand is, it could be entirely accidental.

  • Intentional or not – how did it get through editing etc without anyone commenting or noticing it?

    Reply

  • That’s pretty funny and I’m sure that he did that on purpose!
