This savvy baker turned 11 mud cakes from Woolworths into an ‘absolutely stunning’ wedding cake.
Posting in a baking Facebook group, the Australian woman said she made the affordable cake using $4.80 mud cakes from Woolies.
With the average cost of a wedding cake in Australia priced at $525, the woman saved hundreds of dollars after the ingredients cost just $56.80.
‘Bottom tier consists of four cakes each made out of two mud cakes, the second tier is two mud cakes and for the third tier, I cut a mud cake into two smaller ones,’ the woman said, adding she was ‘proud of her efforts’.
‘Betty Crocker buttercream icing in between layers and covering. Fresh flowers supplied by the bride.’
The 11 cakes cost a total of $52.80, while a 400g tub of Betty Crocker Vanilla Frosting is priced at $4.
‘To make the bottom tier of the cake I used eight mud cakes in total. I lined a larger tin with Glad Wrap and squeezed two mud cakes together to make one big one.
‘It’s not as high as a normal cake but worked well as it’s the perfect height for one layer. Once they were in the tin spread out I just wrapped them and froze till needed.
She added the second tier of the cake was made by layering two mud cakes which had their icing removed and the top tier was created by cutting one cake into two smaller ones.
