Hello!

You would definitely need to be a cruise fanatic and have sturdy sea legs to book a cabin on this cruise.

The longest cruise in history is set to depart London on 31 August, 2019 and sail around the world on a continuous journey of 245 days. Wow, you’d certainly need to work hard on your boss to wrangle annual leave for this one.

This epic journey will take place on the Viking Sun which will visit 59 countries and 113 ports, touching every continent except Antarctica.

The Route

The Viking Cruise line will carry 930 ocean-obsessed passengers and sail away into the Great Britain sunset before heading for Greenland, Canada, East coast of the United States, the Caribbean and around South America

The ship will then traverse the Pacific and stop off in New Zealand before dropping by Australia. In local waters, the Viking Sun will drop anchor in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Hobart, Thursday Island, Cairns and Whitsundays.

Then, the Viking Sun will cross the Pacific and reach New Zealand, which includes stops at Auckland and Dunedin. It will then hit up a pretty big variety of Australian destinations, including Thursday Island, Cairns, Whitsundays, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart.

Next up is Asia, Middle East, North Africa and finally through the Mediterranean, and docking back in London on 2 May 2020, 8 months after it originally departed.

So How Much Do We Need To Save Up?

Clearly, making your home on an ocean liner for a couple of months is not going to be cheap!

You can grab a bargain if you pick a Veranda room for $117,995. Tne top tier goes up to $342,895 for the exclusive “Owner’s Suite”- which unfortunately have already sold out.

What’s Included?

Besides ticking off just under 60 countries on your bucket list, passengers will get to use a 7500-litre infinity pool, a Scandi-style spa with a “snow grotto”, a complimentary shore excursion in each port and unlimited Wi-fi (which is almost always an extra on many other cruises).

If you aren’t able to commit to the full 245-day Ultimate World Cruise itinerary, Viking will also offer guests an option to sail one of two shorter segments during the cruise.

If you’re thinking of booking, make sure you have a suitcase supply of seasickness pills.

  • I’ve been sea sick on shorter boat / cruise trips, so this would certainly not be something for me.

  • Start saving extra in your superannuation now and you might be able to afford all or just part of it when you retire.

  • A bit long on a cruise ship for me.

  • Love to travel to all those destinations but I couldn’t cope with such a long time on a boat. Would miss my family dreadfully. Two weeks cruising is enough for me.

  • Oh my… I struggled to last 14 nights on a cruise!!

  • Wow that is a long time!

  • What a great way to see different countries. As long as I could get off at each country, I think it would bearable, as long as nothing went wrong with family left behind

  • My hubby and I love cruising … but 8 months is a bit too long even for us ! Besides I would miss my family too much ????

  • Definitely too long confined for me but I’m sure you would find your sea legs if you were on the cruise.

  • Ding think this one would be for me but I’ve always wanted to go on a cruise, except every time I try to organise one hubby changes his mind or friends cancel

  • I am sure it would be amazing but a tad too long for me!

  • 8 months stuck on a cruise no thank you the idea is making me claustrophobic

  • This doesn’t appeal to me, far too long with too little freedom. I rather travel through a country in a slow pace, experiencing it’s culture and habit and meeting it’s people

    • I absolutely agree with you – I like to travel at my own pace and with my own agenda. I like to immerse myself in each country and culture.

  • Far too long for me. 59 countries, my that’s a lot. Good luck to those who take it on.
