Hello!

If you’re keen on doing a theme-park experience with your kids, but the thought of tackling Disney is just too overwhelming and expensive, then LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort is your answer.

This was our first ‘real’ theme-park holiday with our kids (aged 5 and 7) and I have to tell you, it was just perfect. The park is the ideal size – it has enough variety to keep the kids and the grown-ups entertained, but even younger kids can walk the entire park without too much trouble.

Everything is ‘awesome’ at LEGOLAND® Hotel Malaysia. Not only is the Lego theme song catchy, it’s also so true. If a kid could concoct a hotel of their dreams, this would be it. There are mind-blowing LEGO sculptures everywhere and mountains of never-ending blocks to create your own inventions. Giant LEGO characters are always around to meet and greet the excited guests and everything, everywhere in this hotel is all about having fun!

The hotel is just steps away from LEGOLAND® Malaysia theme park and water park as well as the newly-opened SEA LIFE, so it’s the perfect place to stay during your visit. In fact, I would say that the kids loved the hotel just as much as the theme park fun, so I would recommend staying here at least one night (but two is even better!).

So let’s take a closer look at what makes a holiday to LEGOLAND® Malaysia so AWESOME!

The Theme Parks

There are three fun parks within the LEGOLAND® Malaysia complex – the main theme park, the water park and the newly opened SEA LIFE.

LEGOLAND® Theme Park has a fantastic selection of rides, shops, places to eat, plenty of areas to build your own Lego creations and so much more to keep the whole family entertained.

The theme park is made up of a number of different lands. There’s miniland – an amazing miniature showcase of Asian landmarks all built using Lego bricks. Imagination includes mesmerising 4D movies, kids’ play world, an observation tower and fun kids’ rides. There’s Lego Ninjago World and Land Of Adventure with an awesome log boat ride which creates the biggest splash (warning – you will get wet!).

There is a perfect combination of rides for young kids and older ones and lots that the grown-ups will love too. There are also a handful of rollercoasters, including the adrenaline pumping Great Lego Race rollercoaster, complete with Virtual Reality goggles to take the thrill to the next level.

The Waterpark

There is so much aqua fun to be had at the Lego-themed water park. Build your own LEGO® raft and then glide down the lazy river, ride the surf at the LEGO® wave pool, whoosh down a huge variety of body and tube slides and get splashed in the interactive play structures like the massive Joker Soaker and DUPLO® Safari.

SEA LIFE Malaysia

SEA LIFE Malaysia is the country’s first interactive LEGO® themed aquarium. It is a magnificent marine sanctuary comprising of 13,000 marine life of 120 species from 11 different habitat zones. The interactive aquarium at SEA LIFE Malaysia provides a fun and exciting learning experience that combines education and conservation. With a blend of LEGO®’s approach of building imagination through play.

Amongst the marine life housed across 25 tanks are Stingrays, Zebra Sharks, Black Tip Reef Shark, Seahorses, and more. Other amazing discoveries include magical storytelling, interactive displays, hands-on encounters at the Rock Pool zone, special habitat zones which comprises of a Malaysian Rainforest, a Stingray Bay and a fascinating Ocean Tank, filled with 400,000 litres of water. On top of this, guests can keep a lookout for special LEGO® Mini-Figures and other LEGO® sea creatures.

Disco ball lift

We all went crazy for the LEGOLAND® Malaysia hotel disco party lifts. Every elevator had a rotating disco ball, strobe lights and blasting party music. So even if we were a bit tired after a big day out at the rides or a bit annoyed with the kids, we couldn’t help cheering up after a boogie in the lift. Every lift should get a disco makeover – the world would be a much happier place.

Lobby

Stepping into the lobby of the LEGOLAND® hotel, the kids’ eyes grew wider than I’ve ever seen them…and then they disappeared. Check-in at a regular hotel is usually super stressful. I’m trying to act all grown-up with the reception staff while my kids are literally running around in circles and yelling. This usually ends in me apologising profusely and praying they don’t kick us out before they’ve even given us a key.

The lobby at LEGOLAND® Hotel Malaysia is a kids paradise. It’s dominated by a massive pirate ship filled with LEGO blocks, a massive LEGO wall and a mega castle cubby house with secret rooms and a moat full of lego bricks.

Our kids immediately found their home amongst the LEGO, settling down to make their own creations. Many grown-ups joined in the construction fun, while others were chilling out on the couches.

Check-in was a breeze and we actually had to tear our kids away from the lobby attractions to go up to our room.

Themes

Each floor within the hotel has its own theme. Pick from pirate, adventure (Egypt-themed), kingdom (knights & dragons) and Ninjago. The attention to detail is over-the-top, mind-blowingly creative. The whole floor is themed from top to toe and not a single spot is overlooked.

The front of the lifts on our Adventure themed level was emblazoned with an Egyptian scene. There were cartoon scarabs on the carpet and pyramids on the wall.

I love how you can pick a different theme every time you stay at the hotel – which essentially means a completely new experience. Next time, we ‘re going to try the popular Ninjago theme, where you can sleep with Cole, Nya, Kai, Lloyd and all the other cool LEGO ninjas.

Rooms

The rooms at LEGOLAND® hotel Malaysia are themed to perfection – every inch from floor to ceiling tells a story – whether it’s explorers in Ancient Egypt or swashbuckling pirates sailing the seas on the lookout for treasure. I love that there are hidden details – such as lego spiders on the wall or (not real) creepy crawlies on the floor.

Our family room had one large room with a bunk bed and a trundle to sleep three kids, which inter leads into the parents’ room with a massive bed and dressing table. There is a tv in the kids’ room as well as one for the grown-ups.

There is a big bucket of duplo for the kids to play with and they got stuck in immediately.

There’s also a cute scavenger hunt, where the kids need to answer questions to find the correct code that opens the small safe. Inside the safe was a lego treasure that the kids loved discovering. Just a warning, we didn’t think to lock the safe again and my 4 year old son decided to climb into the safe and close the door and we got the fright of our lives when we couldn’t find him.

The adult room had large windows which had a fantastic view of the theme park. The kids loved standing near the windows and watching all the park fun from the comfort of our room.

Food

There are three restaurants with LEGOLAND® Hotel Malaysia. The main restaurant is Bricks which is buffet style. We had dinner there one night and it had an excellent variety of food. The kids made a bee-line for the chocolate fountain as soon as we walked into the room so dinner started off with an hors d’oeuvre of chocolate dipped marshmallows (hey, we’re on holiday!).

There’s a mid-section for salads and breads and a selection of hot food, mostly with Asian flavours. Don’t forget the back area which has an extensive barbecue complete with satay chicken, steak and lamb straight off the grill. There was also make-your-own noodles. The desserts were extensive with ice-cream, pastries, fruit and of course the chocolate fountain.

legoland-bricks

The staff were really happy to help out if you had any food intolerances. One boy had a number of allergies and the kitchen team organised him special sushi that wasn’t available at the general buffet.

We also had breakfast daily at Bricks. The buffet brekky was extensive and we had a morning feast of all kinds of healthy food and treats.

Open daily: 7:00am-10:30am & 6:30pm – 10:00pm

There’s also Kai’s Sushi Bar, which we didn’t try, but I did hear that it was excellent.

The third eatery, Di Mattoni, is Italian themed, with pizza, pasta and a kids’ menu. It’s smaller than Bricks so reservations are recommended.

There is also the Mall of Medini within a minute’s walk of the hotel, which has KFC, Burger King and a scrumptious Thai restaurant called Absolute Thai (which I can highly recommend).

Entertainment

If you spent the whole day at the LEGOLAND® themepark, chances are the kids (and you) will be worn out after all the fun. But if you still have some energy to spare, LEGOLAND® Hotel Malaysia has an activity schedule to keep you busy into the night. There was a street show and balloonist at 4:30pm, a Little Magic Class at 6:30pm and The Marvellous Illusionist. Then on Sunday night there is a big Kingdom show at 8:30pm.

At the back end of the hotel, there is a big pit of big foam lego bricks which kids loved building their own lego cities. There’s also an xbox station which was perfect for Just Dance challenges.

There are also a number of large malls within a short drive of the hotel if you’d like to explore a bit further.
