Who would have thought that Kmart tea towels could be used to reupholster dining chairs?

A mum has shared her clever hack to the Kmart Mums Australia Facebook group saying that she used patterned tea towels to give her tired dining chairs an upgrade.

DIY queen Jenny revealed that each tea towel cost just $3 and she was absolutely thrilled with the results!

Quick And Easy

Jenny says she used the popular ‘Native’ print tea towels and a staple gun to complete the project.

“It was a lot easier to do than I thought,” she said. “So happy with the results!”

Jenny shared a before and after photo, revealing that dining chairs were originally a dull beige colour that had become worn and stained, so the vibrant design of the tea towels gave them a whole new look.

While Jenny’s choice may not be to everyone’s taste, Kmart has an extensive range of tea towels in a variety of prints and block colours so there is something to suit every home!

“Well done, it looks like a professional job,” said one Kmart mum.

“Amazing! They look gorgeous! A job well done,” said another.

We absolutely love this hack. What an easy way to save money and still update your dining room.

Best of all, you can do it yourself for under $5 a chair  – why not change them every year!?

  • I use tea towels to cover cushions for the outdoor saris, to make general cushion covers, to make pot holders, face masks, cleaning clothes for the car, coasters, peg bags and so many other things – great quality material at the fraction of the cost to buy from material stores and you know they are going to wash well!

  • What a clever idea and so much cheaper and, dare I say better, than getting them done by a professional.

  • I’ve recently did mine but with fabric form spotlight and just a staple gun so easy to do and saves buying and getting rid of when structurally nothing wrong with them

  • We did something similar a few years ago to get us buy until we could find the new dining set we really wanted. We simply went to Spotlight and bought some modern, cool-looking fabric and re-did our 6 dining chairs. We ended up keeping the dining suite a lot longer than expected after that.

  • Have looked at my chairs and I would need a carpenter’s degree to get the seat bases off the chairs !
Wish it were easier as I need to put more filling into the chair seat at the same time.
