Hello!

My kids love climbing into the car and playing the driver – pushing every button, steering and tooting the horn.

Well, after this sad news – I’m going to have to put a stop to this game.

Earlier today, a three-year old girl was run over by a car on the Mid North Coast of NSW.

Police have said a five-year-old boy was playing in the car parked outside the home West Kempsey and accidentally knocked the vehicle out of gear, causing it to roll back onto the toddler.

The little girl is lucky to be alive and sustained a possible fractured leg and pelvis

She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital.

NSW Ambulance spokesman told AAP that she was transported in a stable condition.

Inquiries into the incident continue.

  • Why wasn’t the car locked as it should have been? When are parents going to stop little ones playing round in cars. They are not toys..

  • Cars are never ever allowed to be played in – just way too dangerous and they are not toys.

  • My first thought was the media reports were rubbish because I’ve never experienced issues as described nor have my friends children.

  • Pe she gets better soon! I don’t let my son do this because it annoys the hell out of me when he changes all my settings in the car. Who knew my impatience with him could save a life.

  • Oh, how terrible! Too risky indeed to let a child play the driver. I’m glad the girl is alive. I hope she will recover soon!!

  • Wow! I remember playing in the car as a kid but not sure I’d let my son unless I was there and he was on my lap ‘driving’. I most defiant wouldn’t let him in there alone or press buttons – cars aren’t toys
    Glad she will be ok

  • Thank God the girl is ok
Children should never be allowed to be in a car without the supervision of their parents
I have seen kids allowed by their parents to turn the car on and they were only 6!

  • Children should never be allowed to play in the car – especially in the driver seat and unattended – for exactly this reason! So pleased the poor mite will be okay.

  • how very scary for all involved, she is very lucky I guess it could have been a whole lot worse.

  • Aw bless, so dangerous ! Glad the girl is alive and stable !! Praying for quick and full recovery.
How can the car go out of gear with no key in the contact (that’s what I assume anyway) ?

    Reply

  • This is exactly why I’ve never let my kids play in the car! An easy accident to have.
