A video of a toddler who climbed onto a luggage belt at Atlanta airport has gone viral, with the little boy shown scrambling over bags and suitcases.

Every parent knows how difficult travelling with a toddler can be, but one little boy has taken things up a level by climbing onto the luggage belt at Atlanta airport.

Video footage shows the toddler being taken around the belt before descending underneath the world’s busiest airport where staff were able to retrieve him.

A Wild Ride

Two-year-old Lorenzo sat down on the luggage belt while his mother was printing their boarding passes at a check-in machine. Just moments later, the little boy had disappeared through the rubber curtain and was desperately scrambling to avoid being taken into the screening machine.

The machine detected an abnormality and sent what was assumed to be a bag into a special room for further checks. After descending through the luggage chute into the security area, Lorenzo was retrieved by surprised staff who comforted the little boy and check him for injuries.

“The officers who work down there, almost all of them are parents,” spokesman Mark Howell told the ABC.

After a closer inspection of the little boy, it was found that he had suffered a fractured hand but was, thankfully, otherwise unharmed.

“I’m thankful he is alive,” his mother told a local television station. “That’s all that goes through my mind. I’m just grateful he is here.”

This story is yet another reminder of how a split second can change everything. Lorenzo is definitely one lucky little boy to be unharmed and has seen parts of the airport most people never even knew existed.

  • How horrific! It just goes to show how it only takes a split second for something nasty to happen.

  • Lucky no serious harm was done to the little one!

  • The poor mum, she must have been so anxious. Good story to tell when he is grown up.

  • Oh no, what a terrible experience. So lucky the little boy didn’t get a part of him caught in the cracks of the conveyer. And he went down the Shute, omg! Nope, no dramas for me at the airport. On one flight, my daughter power chucked and hit the people in front. We got moved to other seats, but they had to stay there with the stench of vomit. A bit embarrassing

  • I know I shouldn’t laugh but that’s the type of things toddlers do. Albeit the child was hurt however it was a good lesson and outcome for both the child and the parent. Scary-yes but no harm done.

  • Glad he’s ok. That would freak me out. Toddlers – can’t take your eyes off them for a second.

  • This is so scary. This is why I always use child “leashes” when travelling. I know they look awful but they keep the child safe and by you when travelling.
