Coles customers are being warned over a new scam targeting people collecting the rare Stikeez figurines.

The golden bananas are in such high demand that they are fetching more than $20,000 online.

Adelaide resident George Aslandis claims he is one of the lucky shoppers to find the golden bananas at a store in Greenacre, but not everyone is convinced, shares Yahoo news.

“It looks like someone’s spray-painted that one,” one astute Coles shopper said.

“It’s not totally gold, it’s like a bronze colour,” another commented.

The determination to score the golden banana has led to fraudulent figurines being sold to unsuspecting collectors for huge price tags.

Coles has urged shoppers to be diligent when purchasing Stikeez online, saying that every real golden banana comes with a certificate of authenticity.

  • Wow I wish I found a golden banana. Would certainly prefer the cash to a piece of plastic.

  • I just want a carrot. It seems wrong not to have such a basic vegetable.

Just terrible and to have to buy $30 of stuff just to get 1, it’s putting parents in a really hard spot.
I’d love to know what coles do with all the excess stickeez once this promotion is over

  • Why don’t Coles promote something practical like little childrens’ books? I’m sure they could buy huge quantities of them and get them at very discounted price.

    • Absolutely!! The amount of plastic coming out of that store is bad enough without adding to unnecessary landfill with these stickeez.

  • People are already complaining about having to spend more money on shopping to get these Stikeez figurines. Why would someone want to buy them online. You get nothing out of it. Another kids item being ruined by the greed of adults

  • OMG, what has this world come to. DO NOT BUY THEM. They are free when you shop. People have gone mad.

    • I do not understand why people would pay crazy prices for these things either – so many ways to spend money on other things.

  • It’s just a worthless piece of rubbish

  • The lengths some people will go to is just disgraceful.

  • It’s just crazy that anyone would pay that price for a little ‘free’ toy! I guess they are collectible and rare and some people will go to any lengths.

  • I am always amazed and disappointed by the lengths people will go to in scamming others.

  • Oh honestly! Who would pay for something that is free?

    Reply

  • Really just to get $100 voucher they probably spent way over that just to the bloody things

    Reply

  • I can see people spray painting these to make a buck

  • First world problems!!! Take a step back people.
