Here Lorelei shows us how to make paper-quilted wedding anniversary cards…
I recently celebrated my 7th wedding anniversary with a lovely surprise night away for just the two of us. With the upcoming arrival of bubsy number 4 it was a special time together to relax and talk about the past and our exciting future together.
I love to receive and give hand made cards. Not being a scrapbooker though I usually make cards on the computer using a photo.
When I went to the craft show at Rosehill Racecourse in March I saw a lady by the name of Michaela Laurie giving a demonstration on a gorgeous technique called Paper Quilting. She had some beautiful work on display from framed pictures to gift tags and cards. I purchased her book knowing that one day I would put it to good use.
The technique uses little squares of paper that you piece together like you would a quilt. I decided not to use pretty paper stock but to print out little photos from our wedding to make my paper quilt card. I already had these files handy as small pictures as my husband designed our wedding invitation and thank you card in a very similar kind of design. That is partly why I thought it would make such an appropriate anniversary card for him.
I arranged just enough pictures to enable me to be able to cut out a heart shape from the quilted pictures. In the book Michaela mostly uses metallic thread to quilt the paper pieces together but I decided to us some glossy teal thread which was one of our wedding colours.
Nothing says I love you more than a special hand made card in my book and he totally appreciated and loved it.
I love him and he loves me and I pinch myself as to how lucky I am to have found the perfect man for me, the man of my dreams. Looking forward to many more happily wedding years with together. xoxo
