Hello!

Any mother out there will be able to tell you that when it comes to birthdays, Christmas and even actual births, most friends and relatives are so wrapped up with buying cute clothes and awesome toys for the kids that they forget about the Mums (and Dads).

And whilst, of course, we’d all prefer for our little bundles of joy to get all the love and attention, sometimes it’s nice to be remembered as a Mum too.

So, if you’ve bought your friend’s kids a bunch of awesomely thoughtful gifts this Christmas but forgot about your actual friend… here are some gift ideas for new Mums!

A basket full of naughty pregnancy no-nos

Why is it that whenever we are told we can’t have something, it’s all we want in the world? If your friend has recently become a mother, she would probably love nothing more than to finally indulge in all those wonderful foods she had to go without during pregnancy. So whether it’s a gourmet cheese hamper or a DIY sushi kit, give your friend something she can truly enjoy this Christmas!

Novelty matching Christmas pyjamas

Yes, this one is slightly (probably very) ridiculous, but why not get your friend a lovely set of comfy Christmas PJs to match that lovely little onesie you already bought her baby? Comfy pyjamas will not only help her relax and enjoy the coziness of Christmas with her baby, but it could also provide some wonderful photo ops for her new little family too!

Flowers

Amidst all the chaos of caring for a newborn, new mums don’t always have time for those extra little delights they used to enjoy. If it’s not a necessity, chances are they are not spending the time and money on it right now!

So whilst buying flowers might seem like an unoriginal and perhaps not very Christmassy choice, a nice beautiful bunch could actually be highly appreciated. And if you’re super disorganised and last minute (like most of us), there are flowers for everyone and every occasion available at the click of a button these days!

Your time and services

If you’re on a bit of a budget (or maxed out your funds on buying adorable little onesies and muslin blankets for the baby), then why not officially offer your babysitting capabilities?

Give your friend some much needed time to relax and enjoy herself by offering to babysit. Or, if she’s not quite ready to leave the baby, why not offer to pop round with some delicious mince pies and coffee for a few hours? That way your friend can go and enjoy a nice long bath without having to worry about the baby.

Of course, to make it a proper gift for a new mum and not just a vague gesture, you’ll need to go all out with the card… so get your glitter and glue out pronto!

Personalised Christmas ornaments

Help your friend start some Christmas traditions with her new family by getting personalised Christmas ornaments for each family member. It’s a sweet, sentimental and thoughtful gift that she can continue to use for years to come. And, it’s the kind of gift that can suit any budget!

Home spa gifts

As a new mother, your friend probably won’t have time to go to that luxurious spa you’d like to take her to. So why not help her relax and take care of herself in the comfort of her own home? A basket of oils, scents and creams can really help your friend unwind and is probably the kind of thing she won’t spend money on right now.

So there you have it, six great Christmas gift ideas for a new mum that can be made to suit any budget!

  • I still loved the same things when I became a mum as I did before. For me it has always been perfume, books and candles…..cant go wrong.

  • I really like the matching pyjamas idea. I got myself and daughter a set of matching pyjamas one Mother’s Day. We love them. It would be nice if they made matching pyjamas for my son as well. Whilst not exactly matching, my husband and children do all have pyjamas for their favourite football team.

  • That’s not really true. I’ve had a list of people I buy gifts for, family and friends, and whether they have children or not….everyone gets presents. Yes, there’s a fuss made over new babies, but I don’t forget about everyone else
