Hello!

Soooo. Tell me….

What type of mum are you?

Helicopter mum – The hovering figure.

Cottonwool mum – Wrapping child/children in emotional padding for daily events.

Buy-A-Bus mum – “ I’ve had children in every decade”.

Text Book mum – Applies everything pretty much by the book.

Two.4 kids mum – Quintessential cover photo family.

The rest of the bunch mums!!

Sooo….where do you fit in?

And, do you know which the best one is?

None!!

No-one gets motherhood right, not all the time.

You can pride yourself on that amazing pile of books.  A mum can get up at 5am to get a head start.

Mums can be fit, healthy and look like a goddess (or not).

because it doesn’t matter.

You will get the bad with the good.  Your children will muck up sometimes and they will have to learn hopefully through consequence.

They will say “I hate you.”

Then hopefully later, they’ll come back and say they’re “sorry”. (Sigh of relief… they have a conscience and you’re not bringing up a sociopath)

They’ll declare …. ”You’re The best mum in the world.”

And you’ll croon in the way only a mum can, actually believing it. Because YOU are their mum and that’s their opinion and you do your damndest to get it all right. Absolutely!

Taking up every waking or not awake second of your time.

And by some strange universal powers, you actually manage to accomplish most of a few things, sort of, a bit each week.

Don’t get me wrong. Consulting books can be a reassurance for many. Some will happily wing it. Go by their own gut. Definitely, the hovering parenting can keep them safe.  The mum with a handful, has experience and absolutely that counts. But no-one will get it more right than another.

Ultimately though, don’t be too hard on yourself.  Don’t be hard on other mums.  All doing the same thing, wanting our children to be safe and to be successful.

Not to be bullied, but not to be the bully.

Finding that balance point as a mother has never been more challenging.

….Well, I don’t know…. There was The Depression.

There were pioneer women without air conditioning.

We can’t feel those experiences though! But take heed that all mums have had their journey.

We are here, now. Struggling through and striving/thriving through daily.

No matter what our “style” of parenting, we are all there together. Bringing up kids. All with their own wonderful, crazy, beautiful, strange, developing, not perfect lives.

Embrace the journey.

Or at least Brace yourself.

  • I’m a good mum, I did my best on a daily basis. I wasn’t great and I didn’t always get it right, but I did my best and I am a good mum

  • I little bit of a Helicopter mum. This was being Cancerian in nature. :)

  • I would say that I don’t fit into any of these groups

  • I don’t fit into the groups, though I would probably be more helicopter than the others, well when my kids were little and because I have anxiety. With my youngest I had no choice as she has anxiety too so is glued to me.

  • i didn’t relate to any of those groups. I’m the yelling because I’m too tired then feel guilty about it later because they are only little mum!

  • Phew, I wouldn’t put myself in any of those mum groups, lucky that was the right answer lol

  • Oh it’s more of a spectrum, the kids need different things.

  • I think I am a cottonwool mum!

  • I think I’m a cat mum. Tolerate my kid play fighting on me for three hours and then decide its time to stop and hold him down and bite him until he goes away and bothers someone else.

Btw. I don’t actually hold my kid down and bit him.

  • I can be abit of everything, at different times, too.
But ultimately, not judging others is important. I really believe that support goes so much further then criticism. Until you’ve walked in someone else shoes…….

  • Do we need to be put in a box? I think we all tend to fluctuate for different kids and different situations

  • I love being a mum. I have taken on board a lot of information from my own experiences and from family and friends. I see my self as the rest of mums.

    Reply

  • I possibly fall into the “rest of the mums” category, trying every day to get it right…
